TIA! My birthday money is burning a hole in my pocket

We have a few kindles and nooks because DH is a nerd and for some reason every birthday and xmas he must replace it with something new
What do you want to do on it? Just read? just play online or games? watch videos? All of the above?
*I* have the kindle fire HD that DH bought me for xmas (and yes I wanted it so when i cook I don;t drag my laptop in the kitchen lol)

Lucy, that is hilarious...that is half of the reason I want it! I am tired of squinting at my phone looking at recipes or getting food on my laptop if I drag it into the kitchen Of course I want to read, and I'll probably let Claire play a game now and then. Not sure how many movies/TV shows I'll watch, but if it has that capability I will probably use it sometimes.

I was actually looking at the Fire HD as my top choice.

I have a second generation (very basic all you can do is download books and a few games) and I like it, but Iím a big reader of romance novels (a major weakness of mine) especially when itís a series collection and Iím very frugal, and I found that although there are a lot of free books to download on kindle there wasnít a lot of options of the books that I liked to read for free, so I was spending a lot more money downloading books than I wanted. Our local library has a used book trading section that tends to have a lot of books that I read, so I went back to the book swapping to save money.

But even saying all that, I prefer the convenience of have the Kindle then having to carry around a book(s)

I havenít looked at the newer generations of Kindle or Nook, so not too sure of what all they offer.

And happy belated birthday!

So I don;t read much on mine so a reader version wasn't too important whereas DH read ALL the time so he didn't not get a kindle HD.
I think the fire HD would be perfect for you! Get the biggest screen you can
And YES with the kids it's awesome! They use it so much!
Oh and they I got this cover: Amazon.com: rooCASE Origami Dual-View (Black) Vegan Leather Folio Case Cover for Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7 Inch Tablet - Support Landscape / Portrait / Typing Stand / Auto Sleep and Wake: Kindle Store
and I love it! Super cheap to boot with prime

I am on my Kindle Fire HD now. I read on it. My library in my town allows me to borrow e-books on here. I keep them for three weeks and if I don't return them by the due date, they automatically take them back. I have bought books that I've really wanted to read.
Besides reading, I use it as a tablet for internet searches, recipes, watching tv shows, facebook, etc. My DH has an iPad (which is much cooler) but I'm fine with my Kindle

*giggle* this question...bahaha.

My job is developing apps for kindles, so we are swimming in them around here, lol!

In our house, we have:
Kindle 2
Kindle 3 Wi-Fi
Kindle 3 3G with ads
Kindle Fire 1
Kindle Fire 2

and currently borrowed out to other company employees for research:
Kindle Fire HD
Kindle Fire HD 8.9

plus a lot of other tablets, lol.

if I had to pick a favorite amongst the fires, it would be the HD. It has great sound, an awesome screen, the buttons are in a good place and easy to use, etc.

*lurking*

I have a Fire, and Reme has the HD. I like the lay out of the regular fire, but I LOVE his HD in almost every other aspect. The kids Free time makes the purchase worth any extra it might cost you. Plus the webcam is super handy for skype, amazingly clear picture and sound... tops both of my computers. Biggest downfall to the HD is the speaker on the back.. so if you put it in a case it's a big muffled.. but even muffled it's better than my Fire.

I've requested an HD for Christmas
