So the good news...

I had my 1st ultrasound today at 6 weeks, 0 days and I got to see my little bean! I measured one day shy, at 5 weeks, 6 days, but the best part was I got to hear the heartbeat!!! I immediately got emotional and started to cry and they had to ask me to stop breathing, so they could measure it. It was 103 bpm which they said was great for 6 weeks. It was so amazing to hear. I don't remember hearing it for my son, just seeing it and in my 2nd pregnancy I had a blighted ovum, so I never heard a heartbeat. If I knew how to upload the pic I would.

Now for the bad news...

My left ovary is enlarged and I apparently have a cyst on it. In the excitement of hearing the heartbeat I didn't ask many questions about it. But the scary thing was that it looked large. So much larger than the amniotic sac. They are having me come back next week for another ultrasound, so I guess I will find out more then. The dr. did tell me that it was from the ivf stim meds that I took and that it should get smaller by the 2nd semester and might go away on its own. Reading on Google has scared me, I must admit. Well I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm still a little in shock that there's an actual baby in there. I really am pregnant. It's surreal. Oh and I was told I am now allowed to swim. YAY!!!! But I'm still on pelvic bedrest meaning no intercourse, orgasms, and no exercise. Not until they know more about the cyst. My poor hubby!

I'm so sorry you didn' t hear your bean's heartbeat yet, I know how scary that can be. But 5w,5d is very early. I think I read that the earliest it can possibly be heard is 5w,3d and is usually heard by 6w,5d.

Let me tell you that they told me more than once before they started that they would try to hear a heartbeat if they could, but that it was still very early. That this ultrasound was to determine that the pregnancy was in the right place(not ectopic) and to determine how many fetuses there were. (I had ivf and 2 embryos were put back in and my hcg #'s were a little on the high side.) So they said they would bring me back in a week or so, if we didn't see it. I think God knew I couldn't handle that this time around, that or I just got lucky. I'll say a prayer you get to see your baby's hb soon!

Oh wow!!! Happy tears for you, Cyn!!! Yay!!!

I had quite a large cyst on my ovary when pg with my now 6yo. It burst on it's own causing quite a bit of pain and a tad bit of spotting in the 12th week, but all was well before and after that. It is natural to have a cyst during pregnancy from the corpus luteum. I guess mine just kept growing in fluid instead of disolving when the placenta took over.

Thanks! That's way more reassuring than the doctor saying it. lol. I was really nervous when I started spotting. But the pink went away completely and the symptoms are raging on! So I'm sure everything is fine. I had a missed miscarriage last year and I didn't have symptoms of pregnancy at all after the fetus quit growing. So I'm really highhoped over here. I don't need another u/s so I'll be waiting until about 9 to 10 weeks to see if a doppler hears the hb! Feels like so far away.

That's great news.

I had a cyst during my last pregnancy and they saw it like yours on the first ultrasound. I never had any problems from it and it must have just went away on it's own because later in my pregnancy dr couldn't see it. so hopefully yours will just go away.

Great news! I hate that I have to wait SO long for mine, I'll be almost 9 weeks!

Are you happy that it's just one baby or were you hoping for two?

Awwww... glad you heard the heartbeat! So reassuring!
Hopefully that cyst does go away by itself... good luck on your check up!

I'm thrilled that there's one and that so far everything looks good. BUT I will admit I was secretly hoping for both to implant. I had mixed emotions yesterday and I was afraid to post about it. I have guilt that I'm sad that only one stuck, bc we have tried for so long and I feel one should make me happy and I know other infertiles would look at me as so ungrateful.

I can't help feeling sad though, that my uterus was a good home for the one and not the other. Not too mention that there will be such an age gap between my son and this baby and that wouldn't be the case if there were twins.

So yes I guess I did wish both made it. My hcg #'s were also in the twins range each time according to The Betabase website, so I think that messed with my head a little. I'm getting over it though and I am just so thankful for the little bean we do have and I just hope and pray it continues to grow and be healthy.

Thanks for asking so I could get it out. Just typing this made me feel better about it!
