I am having a mini freak out session. I was started on progesterone after over 1 year of TTC. Finally, they figured out that my progesterone was very low during my luteal phase, and so I wasn't likely to be able to support a pregnancy. After just 2 cycles of TTC on the progesterone, we finally got pregnant. Now, I am afraid to stop it! I KNOW the placenta fully takes over progesterone secretion at 12 weeks, all of my years and years of medical school and residency have taught me this. So in my brain, I know it's ok. But in my HEART I am terrified!!

Anyone else been through this or struggling with it now??? I need moral support!!!

Hi there, I know how you feel. I've been diagnosed with a luteal phase defect. I was nervous when it was time to go off my progesterone shots when I was pregnant with my son. It ended up being fine then, as well as when I was pregnant with my daughter. I admit I'm a little nervous again since I just started shots last week and will be going off them in just over 2 weeks. But I think it will be ok this time too.

I've never had to go on progesterone but I can understand why it would cause you worry to go off. I'm sure I'd worry about it too if I was on it. I'm pretty sure Stephanie isn't the only one in here who is or was on progesterone. Hopefully someone else sees your post soon.

I'm taking progesterone, and I was a bit nervous to stop, I've got 2 more weeks, but once I get past the first trimester I'll feel a lot more confident with stopping, especially after my next ultrasound this coming week. Maybe you can have the Dr check your levels again before you stop?

I'm on progesterone too and even though I was told I could stop the progesterone at 10 weeks by the fertility specialist, my ob wants me to wait until 12 weeks. So I've got about 2 more weeks and I'm good with that. All your doctor instincts are right. Our babies and their placentas will take over and we would just be filling our bodies and our babies with unneeded meds. Be confident in your knowledge. In this instance I think your head knows what's right, even if your heart is afraid. xoxo

Thank you all for the support. Especially encouraging words from Cyn. I like your comment about unnecessary meds! I am 12w5d currently. I'm going to finish this week, then taper it off, and pray!!!

I'm on progesterone also and I've been struggling with the same fear. I've asked my dr twice now and he has reassured me both times that by 12 weeks the placenta takes over so you don't need it anymore but I still struggle with the fear of stopping it. I'm just going to try to trust him and his knowledge.

I was on progesterone too due to an IVF cycle. My RE stopped it at 10 weeks. I was a little nervous, but everything turned out fine! I am now 13 weeks with two healthy babies. I agree with Cyn, why put unnecessary meds in your system if you don't need them?

^ Same here, my RE stopped mine last week at ten and a half weeks. I am glad to be rid of it! The sleepiness and constipation it brought were no fun. Plus my levels were good to begin with, it was more because of my previous losses than low levels. One less shot to worry about every day!
