Surgery is done and my son is alive! He is on an ECMO machine which basically does the work for his heart and lungs until they get stronger. But the doc said surgery was uneventful and he expects his heart to recover.

Oh thank god! I just saw this thread and my heart was aching reading the updates throughout the day. Praise the Lord that things went well during surgery.

My prayers are with you and little Sammy baby. He's such a fighter.

He is indeed a fighter. I can't believe he came out on the good end of that 50%. I came home so we could get the kids from my mom but dh went back to the hospital. I can't go and see him like that hooked to the ECMO. The tubes go in his neck and run blood through his body on top of the fact it causes swelling in his body. I just can't take the visual after my hard day. But one of us had to brave it and dh is less emotionally fragile then me.I may skip visits til the ECMO is gone. But I am still praying for good recovery. The first couple days are the most critical. He is likely looking at another 3-4 weeks in the hospital. Poor baby will be 2 months old before he comes home, but at least he will come. He is in such a fragile state now so I will continue to pray for positive news tomorrow. Thank you all so much for the love and support. I kept my laptop close the whole time at the hospital just to update you all and read your comments, they kept me going.

Momma, rest. It's been an emotionally draining day. You have been as strong as your little man. I think it's totally acceptable to wait until the ECMO is gone before seeing him again. It seems like a good way to keep your sanity and strength up.

I agree! Rest and take some good care of you! He's the one in surgery, but i know it's unbelievably hard on you. Make sure you get some rest so when you can go back you are 100 percent! Big hugs.
