Yesterday morning I had my latest doctor appointment and we went over my ultrasound results. The tech found some cysts on the baby's neural cortex so I have to go back for another ultrasound in 5-6 weeks to make sure they haven't grown.
My doctor said there were no other markers to indicate any problems so the cysts are probably completely harmless and he said the tech's report wasn't conercing, the repeat ultrasound is more of a cautionary formality.
I asked around in my PR because I remember hearing a number of women talk about this last time I was pregnant but I couldn't remember the details. Their babies all had something called a choroid plexus cyst I don't know if that's what she has, my doctor didn't give it a name, but they were all born healthy no issues.
Anyways, has anyone ever had this with a pregnancy before, or have any experience? I am trying to keep myself from googling. I'm sure its nothing...
Staying away from Google and trusting the words of your doc are good things. It sounds like he is confident that in your case, baby is ok and the follow-up ultrasound is just to confirm. I know it sounds scary, but I believe if a specialist tells you not to worry, you should trust that judgement. With neural cyst, there are dozens of factors that predict outcome, and the range of outcomes is extremely broad. I do know that this type o thing is primarily benign in nature. I recently read a study from the Journal of Prenatal Medicine on this subject after attending a lecture on one of the possible outcomes. It sounds like your doctor already knows that many of the underlying risk factors don't exist and you should feel content with that conclusion!
Choroid plexus cysts are totally normal as long as they are a solitary finding. They can be linked with chromosomal disorders if other things are seen on the ultrasound. But since they didn't see anything else-- don't worry!! Totally normal!
My baby has a 7mm one of those in her head too! My midwife was not concerned and said if there were no other strange markers (there aren't), there is absolutely nothing to worry about. She says she wishes they didn't even include it in the report bc they never fail to get parents all worried, and they are normal!
