I have read and heard so much regarding both and i haven't been around newborns in yearsssssssssss. So my question is, which do you do/prefer? Do you put the baby asleep in their crib/bed on their back or their tummy?.

PS i hope this innocent post doesn't get out of hand

With #1, on tummy only when we were awake and watching.. on back otherwise. Did not bother him once he learned to roll both ways himself.

Definitely on the back when they are newborns. I have used the wedge with my oldest to kind of prop her on her side. She had reflux and congestion issues though.

I believe tummy sleeping has been known to cause SIDS. With that being said both my kids liked to sleep on their tummies. I only let them do this when I was right there. Otherwise they were put on their backs.

I did both. Mostly back when sleeping thru the night and tummy and back at naps.

back, without a doubt. The risk of SIDs is too great. Sleeping better is not worth it in my opinion. I'd rather my child wake up 50 times a night than not wake up at all.

Both....during the day for nap times (in the playpen/bassinet etc) I'd let them sleep on their tummies (William preferred his tummy)....but at night time ALWAYS on theirs backs (they co-slept so they were on their backs anyways).

I ALWAYS put my newborns on their backs to sleep. Once they were rolling over regularly by themselves I stopped flipping them back over, but until then I made sure they stayed on their backs.

During the day when we were all awake and watching them, though, they could lay/play on their tummies as much as they wanted.

However the baby prefers. I don't follow back to sleep.

At night I always put them on their backs. During the day, when I was there to keep an eye on them for naps, I would let them sleep on their tummies sometimes if that's what they preferred.

I put my DD to sleep on her back as a newborn. Now, that she is big and has a choice, she is a tummy sleeper.

Definitely back to sleep, risk of SIDS way too high. I do let the peanut sleep on me on her tummy for little naps and I start tummy time right away so they get that neck and back strength and arms as well.

side. All of mine have slept on their sides and won't sleep on either their back or tummy.

I swaddle my babies and then put them on their back. Naps during the day, if they're not cuddled in my arms, I will put them on their bellies. At about 3-4 months, I will put them on their backs or bellies, whichever they prefer.

I follow back to sleep- that being said my younger son had reflux so bad that sleeping on his back did not work for him. We had a monitor that slipped under his matress and beeped if he quit moving/breathing so sleeping on his tummy was not a problem.
I feel more comfortable with them on thier backs/ sides due to the sids risk...but some babies lead thier own way and you are just along for the ride.
