Bummer! When do they have you doing the 3 hour test?

I have to get that Rhogam shot too. I think it's around 26 weeks, right?

I think the rhogam is 26-28 weeks. Not sure since I am + and never had it. I had to do the 3 hour test last time. Not fun! Pack something to eat so you can eat as soon as you have your last blood draw! That was the best advice I got.

Sorry That sucks! So now I have a question...what is a rhogam shot and what determines whether you need that??

If you have a certain blood type (A something I think) and the baby doesn't have that blood type, you have to have the shot so that your body doesn't try to reject the baby.

Good luck with the 3 hour test!

Each person's blood is one of four major types: A, B, AB, or O. Blood types are determined by the types of antigens on the blood cells. Antigens are proteins on the surface of blood cells that can cause a response from the immune system. The Rh factor is a type of protein on the surface of red blood cells. Most people who have the Rh factor are Rh-positive. Those who do not have the Rh factor are Rh-negative.
Basically if you have a negative blood type such as A-, B-, AB-, etc then you are RH Negative. If your partner is RH Positive (Positive blood type) then there is a chance that your baby could be RH Positive as well.

Quote:
What may happen if I am Rh-negative and pregnant?
If you are Rh-negative, you may develop antibodies to an Rh-positive baby. If a small amount of the baby's blood mixes with your blood, which often happens, your body may respond as if it were allergic to the baby. Your body may make antibodies to the Rh antigens in the baby's blood. This means you have become sensitized and your antibodies can cross the placenta and attack your baby's blood. They break down the fetus's red blood cells and produce anemia (the blood has a low number of red blood cells). This condition is called hemolytic disease or hemolytic anemia. It can become severe enough to cause serious illness, brain damage, or even death in the fetus or newborn.
Which is why they give you the RhoGAM shots to help prevent your body from producing antibodies that would attack a future Rh-positive baby.

I had the shot at 8 weeks because I was spotting and I'm RH Negative and my Husband is RH Positive. My doctor did it as a "good measure" caution.

Well bleh! The Rhogam shot isn't a very big deal from what I've heard and read, but that's a bummer about needing the 3 hour glucose test.

I'm pretty sure I failed the one hour today. I was stupid about what I ate right before having it (I ate like 8 orange tic tacs directly before parking my car at the hospital). Anyway, there was a message when I got home from work saying to call about test results but the office was closed. Since I'm o+ I'm sure it's not RH factor and those are the only two tests they ran today.

I heard a large percentage fail the 1-hour, but most then pass 3-hour. True?
