What DO you celebrate this time of year - if anything?

I know a lot of the time everyone assumes everyone celebrates Christmas, but that's not always true.

Our family celebrates Christmas and tries to keep it more focused on Jesus than on gifts, although that is hard since gifts are so fun! We don't have kids yet but when we do (next year!) we plan to encourage them to give to others during the Holiday season and not be too focused on themselves and the gifts they want, although I know very child (and adult, haha) gets excited about gifts to an extent.

Yep, we celebrate Christmas here. Then New Years of course although I'll be skipping my Baileys and Kahlua this year I guess. We don't do much now for New Years but pre-kids we'd go to a banquet hall party through Johns work and it was lots of fun. Now it's a bonus if I can stay awake til 12 lol.

Kirin, I like the way you put that...

Same here. I decided to go ahead and let Noelle believe in Santa, because I did, and I turned out just fine.

I was in Hobby Lobby a few weeks back with my aunt and they had party decorations that said "Happy Birthday Jesus". I think that will be a fun way to teach Noelle about the real meaning of Christmas.

For me it's always been more of just spending time with family, no matter what religion. If I'm at my dad's or grandfather's it's all about Christ mas and alot of pies and traditional christmas charols, decorating the tree all that jazz...

At our own home it's more about spending it with each other. It's all we've had when we can't make the trip to family (which is more often the case). This year it'll be work and most likely a restraunt afterwards.

I rarely put up a xmas tree, even a little one.. cats like to nom on them too much and I don't feel like cleaning up the aftermath every year all the time

That's how it was at our house before kids. I quit putting up the tree because the cat wouldn't leave it alone. Now the tree goes up every year because the cat's too old and fat to mess with it, now he just sits underneath.

Mine was never to old or too fat... even when he was 17 he still put up a good chase for the kitten.

Problem is Mom/law always put tinsle on it.. and he will eat ANYTHING that is long and shiney.... it just doesn't digest very well so well... you sometimes had to help things along when long and shiney was trailing behind him as he walked by...
