I had a planned c/s so my birth story doesn't start super dramatic!! I got up early on Feb 1st to guzzle down a bunch of water since I wasn't supposed to drink anything after 6am. I was too nervous to go back to sleep so I puttered around the house and did some last minute chores. We took dd to my inlaws house at 9am and got to the hospital at 9:45am (the section was scheduled for 12pm). After they drew some blood and asked a bazillion questions we were left alone for a little while.

I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the spinal. It worked great but I hate that feeling of numbness. Everything on my side of the c/s went great. For my daughter things didn't go as well. While the dr was pulling her out of me she tried crying and inhaled/swallowed a bunch of amniotic fluid (the dr told me I had a LOT of fluid). While they were suctioning it out she stopped breathing, thankfully it wasn't for too long. She was able to cough and sputter alot of the fluid out herself. Her apgar scores were 5 and 7.

While the dr was still stitching me up one of the nurses came over with Lyla to tell me that they were taking her to NICU to transition because she was having a rough time and that she would probably only be there for an hour or two. My husband asked me if he needed to go with Lyla or if he should stay with me. Of course I told him to go...I was fine and he needed to be with our baby.

Once they got Lyla to NICU they did a chest xray on her. Her chest cavity was filled with fluid. The nurse called it a white out. They couldn't see any of her organs through the fluid. They admitted her into NICU and told me and DH that she would have to stay until she was able to absorb the fluid and able to breath on her own (at that point she was on oxygen). It was the worse feeling in the world! And I was stuck in bed unable to do anything. They wouldn't even let me see her until the spinal wore off enough that I could get my legs out of bed. She was born at 1:02pm, 6lbs 15oz (I told you earlier that it was 6lbs 14 oz but I was wrong) 18.5 inches long. I finally got to really see her at 5:30pm. I'll speed through the rest of the story.

The first time I got to hold her was 4:30 the next morning. I wasn't allowed to bf her until 10:30am that same day. They gave her an iv to keep her hydrated and told me she didn't need or want any food that first day. She was born on a Wed, Thurs she was bf every 3 hrs, by Fri she was off of oxygen, by Sat they took out her IV and she was released to go home with me on Sun.

I am very thankful that she is healthy and that her stay in the hospital was a short one. I know that some people aren't as lucky as we were. Lyla is a week old yesterday and doing great.

I love this picture. Madi was so excited that I let Lyla lay next to her while we read bed time stories

I had the weirdest epidural in the world once that didn't work during the birth until the last 15 minutes but the numbness lasted for like 6 hours after birth. I HATE NUMBNESS NOW! So I feel you on that spinal. Congrats again!
