Early labor started Saturday night. Made it all the way to Tuesday. I got up for work Tuesday morning at 6 am with some hard contrations that were not very close together so I didn't think much of them. Got sent home from work at about 10am. Went in to see my dr. No change from Sunday when I went to l&d. Dr said to go to the mall and walk. Went with my mom and walked the mall for maybe an hour. I was so tired I couldn't do it anymore. Went home took a short nap while I could. I knew it wouldn't be much longer. At about 645pm Tuesday night contractions started coming every 10 min but they were managable. Starting at about 830 they started coming every 7or8 min. At that point they were still managable but somewhat painful. By 1130 I was having contations every min. Got to the hospital at around midnight. There was still no change in my cervix. I lost track of the time after I was at the hospital. At some point they checked me and I was 4cm dialated. My contractions weren't too bad still but they were painful. I was told that both of the rooms for the water birth were being used and that as soon as one became available I would be moved. I was told it would be 2 hours till I could be in a room with a birthing tub. I don't know how much longer it was after that I started getting a very small urge to push so I said something to my mom. She told me not to so I didn't. A nurse came in to check me I was 7cm. I told them I wanted to get in some warm water to try to relax. There was finally a room with a birthing tub available so they started to fill the tub for me. I got into the jacuzzi tub in the bathroom of the room I was in. I don't think I was in the jacuzzi tub very long before I started getting a strong urge to push. The midwife on call came in and checked me. I was 9 1/2cm. I knew at this point I was having my son in the jacuzzi tub. The midwife broke my water (and had the nerve to ask if I felt it gush out....I'm in water how am I gonna feel water come out of me?) The urge to push got even greater. All the nurses were rushing trying to get everything ready. When I started to push The midwife said with one push she could see my sons head. I started to yell that I couldn't do it and tried to push my legs down and together. My mom ended up holding one of my legs while a nurse held the other. I finally started pushing and I think I only pushed 3 or 4 times before he came out. His cord was around his neck and he was blue. I was scared that something was wrong because he wasn't starting to cry. He never did start to cry at least not a loud hard cry. My mom cut the cord(while crying). It was 6am by that point. They took him to clean him up got me to my bed and let me pass the placenta. I ended up having to get stitches because even though he was small he tore me. When I finally really got to hold him all I could do was smile.

Alexander was technically discharged before me. I was discharged Friday morning and his discharge papers were finalized on Thursday.

We are home now and he is doing great with the breastfeeding. He is such a peaceful baby too. He doesn't cry. I guess him not crying at birth was a sign of things to come.

I love him so much. I'm so glad he's here.

Sounds like an awesome birth. I think it's funny you tried to close your legs, I've thought about whether or not I'd try that during transition.

congratulations, hon! my oldest did not cry at all until he had his heel prick at 24 hours. he almost never cried as a baby, and has been very mellow his whole life. definitely my easiest child. hopefully it's a good sign for you, too.
