After hearing that my ob clinic supports vbac's I have been doing a bit of research. I think I might want to hire a doula.

Have you had a doula in a previous birth? If so how was your experience?

Are you interested in hiring a doula this time around?

I'm pretty sure I will be hiring a doula as this is my first and I need all the support I can get! I'm going to ask my midwife who she recommends because I'd love to get a doula that my midwife already has a great working relationship with.

I'm not sure yet how much it costs but hopefully we can afford it! Statistically things go much better for people with a doula so hopefully it helps for me.

I had a doula for my sons birth and she was awesome! The place she works for has a sliding few scale, so it was affordable. I can't say enough good things about her. She visited me multiple times before and after the birth and obviously was there for the birth. She was super reassuring, since it was my first birth, but not hers! She helped me with my relaxation techniques and I honestly think I may have ended up with a c section if it wasnt for her.

I haven't used one in the past, but am considering one this time. I've met with one and she's great! I haven't decided if I'm going to use her or not only because it is a bit pricey, and she gives a discount as she's technically still a student.

Do your research with them. There is no standard level of care or pricing or anything. In my area, they have gotten together and have a standard fee for doulas and fee with a discount for doula students. They also have standard wording in their contracts for the services offered. Most regions do not have this. So shop around.

I haven't used one in the past, but I want one this time. Not sure if we will yet, need to do some research on ones in our area.

I'm thinking VBAC too (I still need to do my research) and if I do I definitely want a doula. My first vaginal birth was a piece of cake but I'm thinking I may want to be med free, and I'll need all the help I can get.

I’ve never had a doula before, but I know people who have had one, and have heard nothing but super positive things. I want a doula this round (trying for a VBA2C), but I don’t know if DH is on board.

I was looking for one at the start of my first pregnancy, and in the process discovered a)they were too expensive for us and b) midwives were free and provided a lot of the same support. So we just did the midwife for my first two, and that was great, they really were helpful during labour, but I am thinking I would like to have a doula. I have a friend from church who is one and has offered with DD to come (schedule allowing) for free, or at a discount, she's so great and I'd LOVE her support, but last time I felt really guilty asking her to come when I knew we couldn't afford to give her anything. Plus I thought I'd be fast. I was, but not so fast she couldn't have been there. My sis-in-law had her, and says she can't even describe how much of a help she was, they wanted to pay her something and were like 'how do we put a price on what she gave us??"
I'd like to have her, but it would depend on our finances I think. If I ever have a home birth, I would have her for SURE!

My friend had one for her c-section in another state and said she was great. I've never heard of anyone in my area having one! I'm sure they'd be out of our price range, but I'll still look into it because extra support would be great.

I considered one with my 2nd baby before my VBAC but ultimately decided against it because I didn't really want a "stranger" there. I'm a pretty private person so it just didn't sounds great for me. I have a good friend who worked as a doula for many years after she had her two boys, if I could have hired her I would have but she lives in another state.
