Last night I was at a friends party and a neighborhood mom (who has NO social skills and is quite brash) wanted to see my belly, since she hadn't since my pregnancy announcement. I was feeling quite cute with my little belly showing so I stood up so she could see. She said, "oh, you just look overweight." A couple friends were standing around and their jaws hit the floor. What an idiot. That is probably the #1 thing NOT to say to a pregnant woman. Not even sure she realized what she said was so stupid. Letting it roll off my back because I know her personality and that she really doesn't know any better. Ugh.

I am glad you can let that roll off your back. I might have slapped her if not that, I probably would have yelled at her. I had some of my 12 year old students say that to me when I was pregnant with DD, but it is different when they are just kids saying that to you. let alone an adult! Sorry she said that, I am sure your baby bump is adorable.

I bet you look fantastic. I'm glad you know to let that go. Is she a mom, like should she know what it feels like to be pregnant at this stage? Boo to sucky people!

Options for a response if it happens again:

"Thanks! So do you!"
"I'd rather look overweight than act rudely."
"Thank you for your opinion, I won't be needing it again."
"And you thought that was appropriate because...?"

Sorry she said that to you!

I love the "and you thought that was appropriate because..." response. That is what I used on my 12 year olds.

How rude! While that may be how she is, she's never going to change if no one puts her in her place. Sounds like she needs someone to educate her. What an ***!

Or maybe run out of the room fake crying! How rude. I know people like that, but luckily I don't see them but every few years. Or you could say, we'll I'll tell this baby to hurry up and look like a baby bump, darn babies growing to slow for you.

Sorry that happened and glad you let it roll right off.

How rude!!

One of my fourth graders said I looked like I was going to have another baby this week (they don't know yet) and the two boys next to him made him feel terrible for saying it!! I know that's a little different but if 9 yr old boys know better than a grown women definitely should!!!

I know some people don't know better, but don't understand HOW they can not know better. I'd have had to have said something, even if "Wow, that's incredibly rude." So sorry that happened

You guys are so sweet. I got so many "cute" compliments and belly rubs that night, so that way overcompensated. She really has no clue (you should hear some of the other stupid/inappropriate things that come out of her mouth.

That was really rude. Some people really dont have sense in talking. They should learn from children. I really think that lady have low iq in such matters. She should be on behavioral training.
Good that you enjoyed later part. Just edit this bad memory.

You should definitely make a post about all of the crazy things she says!! I'd love to hear more

I'm impressed with how well you took it! You are an inspiration I'm afraid my response would have been, "Aww thanks! You too!!"

Unfortunately, she is a fitness nut, so I couldn't say anything about her weight. Her face on the other hand... Ok, that was really mean.
