I have tears in my eyes. I love Unsolved Mysteries. While poking around on their website I came across a case about a young boy named Michael Hughes. He was in foster care and at his elementary school when a child molester, murderer and kidnapper Franklin Delano Floyd forced the principal at gun point to bring Michael to him. He tied to the principal to a tree down the road and the little boy has never been seen since. Prison inmates claimed there was arumor that Floyd later confessed in jail that he drowned him in a bathtub and got rid of his body.
But that is not where the sadness of this story ends.
The boy Michael Hughes was born to his young mother whose real name no one but Franklin Floyd knows; she never even knew her real name. Floyd kidnapped her when she was a toddler and the first records of her as Suzanne Miller (an alias he cameup with) are from 1975. They have tried to link her DNA with countless missing girls from the late 60s-mid 70s with aboslutely no matches. They say they are out of evidence stored in warehouses, etc. to compare her DNA to.
He raised her as his "daughter" and after high school she gave birth to Michael and have him the last name they were then using as their alias, Hughes. It was always assumed Floyd was the father; DNA testing done on Michael after his mother was murdered in a hit-and-run accident in 1990 (for which the number on suspect is Franklin Floyd) proved that Floyd was NOT Michael's father, even though that's what police thought since they were married around this time.
The little boy's story is very sad, but this girl's story really bothers me. I ordered a book about her, as she was apparently a very nice and intelligent girl all throughout her captive life. However, out of HS she was working as a stripper (probably by force from Floyd) and one of her friends at her job was raped and murdered by Flod and he was eventually caught for that crime. It was when police were near to catching him that he murdered Michael's mother. At the time of death she was using the name Tonya but throughout high school she went by Sharon.
Kiss your daughters. This is such a horrific and heartbreaking story. I don't know why, but it upset me and I felt like sharing.
