Ok, so my husband and I were scheduled to lead music at church last Sunday but obviously weren't in the mood to do it since we lost our baby boy a week and a half earlier. So, this lady at church did it instead. This Sunday, we just found out that my sister is getting baptized at her church so we sent out a message to see if anyone could cover the music (my DH was supposed to be leading it this Sunday...without me because I'm not up to doing it yet) and this lady replies that she might be willing to do it for us but since she covered for us last time and she's scheduled to do it next week also, it just might be too much for her to do three weeks in a row.
I wrote an email to my DH asking if it would ok for me to tell her "gee, so sorry to have inconvenienced you with the death of my son". I'm just so irritated with people's stupidness lately. Good thing Jesus still loves her because right now I'm not really too fond of her.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Since the loss of my son, I have lost the ability to stick a cork in it and be nice. I'll be rude to anybody who says something stupid. I'm angry at this lady for you, but I'm glad you have retained the ability to be polite in situations that require politeness. That's just beyond me.

I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to retain the ability to smile and nod and just think in my head how stupid a person is. We'll see.

I lost that ability for a while too, but managed to get it back. I still think the snarky stuff though.

I have to applaud you for being a strong person, Carrie. I think I am in that "limbo" between where Rebecca is and where Brittanie is --- it's still very hard to stick a cork in it, but I try like mad to have compassion for the person who says stupid things and think that maybe they have a rough cross to bear too ...

... and I am CONSTANTLY CONSTANTLY CONSTANTLY reminding myself that ya just can't fix STUPID!!!

DITTO!!! Only the problem I have is that the people I'd love to tell to stick a cork in it I know don't have a rough cross to bear and so it's oh-so-hard not to say anything. (especially to people I know who are pregnant and just cannot help themselves having to complain about every little thing...GGGRRRR).

Ugh! Don't you just love (not) how some people think you should take a week off life after losing your baby and then everything should go back to normal? I was a basketcase who could barely cook a dinner for months after we lost Roald. The most I did as in a chore was baked a buttload of Christmas cookies for everyone (but I love baking, so it wasn't hard in my mind).

I agree Bonnie. All I could do were the simple chores. I was trying to so hard to get make my life as "normal" as possible at first. If I wasn't doing something I'd break down. My house has never been as clean as that first month after. But then I started work again and that drained me so much emotionally that I stopped doing anything else at home. And people didn't get that. They don't get that grief is a very physically draining thing, and worried that I suddenly "stopped" being so together as I was at first.

I am still at a phase where I can be nice about the stupid comments I would hear, but my patience is running out and one of those days I may blow up.

Hang in there.
