For those of you who did opt to have an autopsy done, how long did it take to get the results?
It's been close to 6 weeks now and I'm anxious for the results because then we can meet with the specialist and go over all the results (amnio, blood tests, autopsy) in greater detail.
we lost Katrina in August 2008 and they told us it would take anywhere between 3-6 months (not too sure why it would take so long?).
Anyway, my Dr. got it back in about mid-November 2008, so about 3 months. My Dr. was so upset when he got the results back, since they didn't offer anything new and b/c like I mentioned in my other thread, her brain basically deflated, so there wasn't much they were able to look at. He was so disturbed about the results and didn't know how to break it to us, he got the results on a Friday and said he practiced the whole weekend how we would break the news to us and then finally told his receptionist to call us early the next week.
My results were ready August 10, 2009. Eric was born on July 12th.
So it's been about one month. We had to call the hospital for the report ourselves because they don't release the report to the doctor.
So, I called the hospital and after being put on hold and transfered a few times, I found out that they have the results and I just have to go in in person and pick them up. It would be nice if someone would have told me.
It took us 3 months, I think it took longer because they ended up doing more genetic testing than they originally planned on doing. Luckily we got the results back a few months before we got pregnant again but the genetic testing was invaluable.
At our 4 week appointment they had all but the chromosomal results. However I did not see the actual autopsy report and chromosomal results until I got pregnant again and looked at my chart. That kind of annoys me. They should just flat out give you a copy, kwim? I'm glad you are able to get it now instead of waiting longer though.
