I'm worrying about Roald's birthday. AndI'm so tired. All I want to do is sleep. We went out to his grave and put up a flag pole with a flag of Woodstock (the bird from Peanuts) that has pumpkins and says Gather Friends. That's his November/Thanksgiving decoration. And then whatever we put out there on Sunday, his birthday. I kind of liked seeing Bill put the flat pole into the ground...sort of the first thing he had to do for Roald I guess is the only way to put it. As in he never assembled a crib or stroller for him or anything and the cross that used to be on his grave my dad put up. Then I got really sad seeing the flag because it was so cute and the way it says Gather Friends and all that's around are stones and plastic markers of dead babies. It was really depressing.

The baby section in our cemetery is on the bottom slope of hill and there is a large tree that shades the baby sectionin the summer and now all the stones are covered with the dead leaves. Which of course reminded me of a song I listened to ALOT last year after we lost Roald. It's a Simon & Garfunkel song that was written by Paul Simon called Leaves That Are Green. I figured I'd share the lyrics here. It was written as a love song I'm sure but it fits my loss.

I was twenty-one years when I wrote this song.
I'm twenty-two now but I won't be for long
Time hurries on.
And the leaves that are green turn to brown,
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand...

Once my heart was filled with the love of a girl/boy.
I held her close, but she/he faded in the night
Like a poem I meant to write.
And the leaves that are green turn to brown,
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand...

I threw a pebble in a brook
And watched the ripples run away
And they never made a sound.
And the leaves that are green turned to brown,
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand...

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello,
Good-bye, Good-bye, Good-bye, Good-bye,
That's all there is.
And the leaves that are green turned to brown.

I'm glad that your DH got to put his pole up, i'm sure it all looked very nice ...I remember years ago at my grandpa's funeral looking at all the baby headstones, it was so sad, but I never imagianed how sad it really was ...We are all here for you

What a beautiful song.
