Just to refresh, I lost my son Seth @36 weeks 8 years ago. The stillbirth was unexplained. The only thing they noted is he was underweight for gestational age. We did the autopsy but they didn't do any genetic testing or anything. They didn't say my placenta looked bad or anything, just that they could not determine cause.

So now I'm pregnant again, 29 weeks. I had an appointment with the perinatal specialist yesterday for a growth check. She is measuring about 2 lb 13 oz which is right in the middle of the growth curve for her age. I have an anterior placenta. She is breech still, and posterior.

Today I met with my regular OB. I had failed my one hour glucose, found out today I passed my 3 hour with flying colors, so thats good. We will start weekly biophysical tests @ 32 weeks. She has always mentioned that she didn't want me going past 39 weeks.

Today we talked about her turning and mentioned that most babies will turn by 32 weeks. If she hasn't turned by then she could try to turn her manually at 36 weeks but if not then I would need a csection.

She also brought up the option of them doing an amnio at 36 weeks to test for lung maturity, and that if her lungs were mature we could schedule an induction or csection (if she hasnt turned) for 37 weeks.

My anxiety is starting to rise. Its been 8 years since I lost him. I'm 35. If this doesn't work out I can't do it again. This pregnancy has been really hard on me. The biophysical profiles will be reassuring but I can't help to worry as we get closer to when we lost him. I am just not sure what to do. There are still some risks involved with the amnio and delivering early but there is also the unknown of why we lost him and not knowing if what happened to him could happen to her.

I'm not sure what to do. Did any of you elect to do the amnio and/or an early delivery for a subsequent pregnancy?

I've done an amnio before and things went very smoothly. I think at 36 weeks amnios are considered very safe...more so than earlier on in the pregnancy.

I did.

Like you, my anxiety was through the roof. Plus, I was on Lovenox so I had to be off of it 24 hours prior to delivery if I wanted an epi. Add to that I have a history of early, very fast labors and I live an hour from the hospital, well it just made sense to schedule and manage her delivery.

I know it's rare, but I had a horrible reaction to the amnio. The procedure itself didn't hurt but the way they hit the muscle with the needle caused it to cramp and it stayed cramped for a good 12 hours until I finally went to l&d and they gave me a shot of demerol.

I had my amnio at 36w exactly and they called me the next day and told me the results showed mature lungs and I went in that day for induction.

I also never got a cause for Eric's death. Everyrhing looked healthy based on autopsy and placenta report. This time around tThere were discussions of doing amnio at 37 weeks by my dr. , and then deliver if the lungs mature.
Then as it got closer to the date, the doctor told me that he wouldn't want to do it. I was also on lovenox, then heparin for precaution and he didn't want to put me thru another med procedure. New York state won't allow to induce before 39 weeks unless there is a med reason. I had no med reason per my dr. I told my doctor that there is no way I want to be pregnant past 38 weeks (Eric died around 38 weeks and 3 days). So I went for my appointment at 37 weeks and 6 days, the doctor did his internal exam to get my contractions started, and the next day I started having contractions but not very strong. Still my doctor made the staff at the hospital admit me and Michael was born that same day.

I did it. I was pretty high risk and there seemed to be no good reason to wait for something bad to happen. Also I was melting down emotionally. We did the amnio at 36 + 6, induced at 37, had a csection at 37 + 1. It turned out to be a very good thing, because he had serious health issues at birth, which would have been much worse if we had waited to have him (the issues were unrelated to his delivery and he's totally fine now).

The amnio didn't hurt, and I would make the same decision over again.

We delivered Erin at 38 weeks for emotional/stress reasons. Cora died at 38 + 1. I went until 39 + 3 with Patrick, and I was so stressed out during that 10 days that I've decided that I will just induce again and not put myself through all the nightmares and stress and such.

We didn't do an amnio though.

I had an amnio at 36 weeks with my son, and his lungs weren't ready so I got steroid shots and was induced at 38 weeks. I delivered my younger daughter by induction at 38 weeks also. My older daughter Makenzie was stillborn at 38 weeks so my doctor has never let me go past that point. I am already scheduled for induction with this one at 38 weeks.

Yeah, I only went past 38 weeks with Patrick because I told myself I wanted to go into labor on my own. But the stress/anixiety/nightmares made it SO HARD. I think I'll just schedule an induction with any further pregnancies.

I admire your courage for being able to try it, I started getting panic attacks at 37 weeks.
