With October 15th coming up, I was looking into going to a memorial walk. The closest one is still an hour away. Then I started thinking about maybe starting my own memorial walk for my area (and Sarah's!)
But, I don't want to be the only one that shows up or have it just be Sarah and I
Is it a crazy idea? How in the world would I even organize it?
I started looking into organizing one for my area last weekend as well! the closet one to me is about 2 hours away! I know I won't be able to organize one this year for October so I am giving myself a year to plan it and have it all organized by next October!
First I am going to find where a good place would be to have it like a park near by and then check with the city ordiance to find out if I need a permit or if there is any fees! Also I am going to check with local bakeries and see if they would be willing to sponsor and do refreshments! then see about local radio stations advertising for it!
Making flyers to give to hospitals, funeral homes, etc... to pass out!
Also I am gonna start a fundraiser to have shirts and bracelets made!
Then after the walk having people meet at in the park for a candle light cermony and poem reading!
Also I am gonna have someone take photos so I can post them
Well hope some of my ideas have helped you in organizing your walk as well!
We can do this together and give each other ideas and tips and watch each others progress! Good luck with planning your walk! I am so glad that I am not the only one thinking of doing this!
I've been thinking about starting one as well, but I have absolutely no idea how to do it either.........and I don't think I'd be able to do it soon enough in order to have it by mid-October. I'm going to try to follow through with this for next year.
I've been trying to find the closest one in my area as well and to no avail....
Steph, I know that I don't live in Canada, but I still live pretty close to you...We are having a walk on September 26th...If your interested in driving down, I can give you the info for it...The woman that do my support group are the ones doing it...They did it last year on October 11th, but since I hadn't had Ella yet, I didn't go.
I think that sounds like a wonderful idea! We have one here and there is a candlelight ceremony in a local park here on Oct 16th that Jason and I will be going to. The walk is actually not just for pregnancy loss- it's a fundraiser though for the organization that provides counseling and assistance to those that suffer pregnancy loss- it's actually a local hospice. I just signed up for the support group there as well that starts in a few weeks. I wish you luck in starting this and let me know when it's organized- I'd love to make a donation!
Alicia- Where in CA are you? Just curious
