So we have decided to do a early elective gender scan that we will pay for. We have never done one before so I'm wondering in your experience or opinion what the best time for one? I have seen some do them as early as 15weeks, but that just seems too early.

I think each place is a little different, you should call to find out. Some places also require that you have at least 1 ultrasound before they will give you an ultrasound. I've seen as early as 13 weeks but of course the likeliness of being correct is way down.

With my second, we had one done at 16 weeks. They were very accurate and sure she was a girl, they were obviously correct. This time we are going at 15 weeks...but they also have a policy that if they are uncertain or unable to determine gender, we come back every week until they can determine, for free.

I think we found out around 18 weeks. It was very easy for the tech to see it was a boy at that point. It might be harder to tell if it was a girl though?

We are going at 15 weeks and they will bring you back until they are sure of gender.

Ya this place does not do a re do if they can't see the gender, so I def want to go in far enough along to be certain of the gender. I was thinking 17weeks would be good?

I had planned on doing this too. I talked to my friend who is an u/s tech and she said she would wait until at least 17 weeks for accurancy. I'll get my US at 20 weeks at the OB so I'm considering just waiting.

I'd be skeptical if you went at 14 weeks. I'd be nervous that they were wrong. That's me though.

I've only ever had it around 20 weeks, so I'm no help. Good luck!

17 or 18 would hopefully be moderately accurate. I hate the waiting up until the gender screening! I want to know now!!

The place I go says you can go in at 16 weeks and they guarantee it 100% on the result. If they can't see you come by for free until they can. We are doing ours at 17+2. But ONLY because my mom is coming to visit that weekend and wants to be there. Or I would do it at 16.

We found out at 16 weeks at my specialists office and it was totally accurate. Very easy to tell since ds was not shy at all.

Mine does it at 12-13 weeks and has a very HIGH accuracy rate, but he's freaky smart. I think I felt 100% safe that he was right at 17-18 weeks.

I think 15-16 weeks is safe. Most of those places do hundreds of gender scans so I'm sure they are very experienced in what to look for too. I'm doing mine just shy of 16.

I should be finding out at the screening I get at 11 weeks, although it might take another week for me to get the results.

The earliest anyone will do them here is 16 weeks. We went at 17 weeks exactly with DS and it was easy to tell. Will probably do 17 again this time.
