My OB office finally called me about my early glucose and I passed. I was wondering if they were going to ever call me.

Unfortunately, I still have to do the other one at 28 weeks -.-

Yay! Congrats! I wish my dr did two tests. I only get one at around 25 weeks....Not sure what the odds of getting GD are before that but to me it seems like they're missing a big chunk of the pg by waiting that long. What if I did get it early? That wouldn't be good really. Your OB sounds good.

Congrats on the good news and good luck on the second test

I only had the early one because of my weight. I'm still heavy after losing 40lbs (which put me at the heaviest I have ever been. My last 2 kids, I gained a lot of weight after having them and it hung around) so that's the reason why she had me take the early one. Otherwise, it would be the standard one at 28 weeks.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I think insulin resistance typically starts around weeks 20-24, at least this is true for me. I don't know all the physiology behind it but the placenta has a lot to do with the resistance and I assume the hormones that cause it start kicking in around then. If you don't have any form of diabetes your body takes care of it on its own but if you are resistant to insulin (type II and GD) or don't make any insulin (type I) then you can run into problems. It can probably start earlier if you have other risk factors though which is why some people have 2 tests. If you don't have other risk factors like being overweight, having already had GD etc then I don't think you need to worry Here in Germany the glucose test isn't even covered by the health insurance (unless it changed very recently) which makes me mad. I obviously don't need to take it being diabetic already but I feel bad for people that have to pay for that test because imo it def. should be covered.

Oh I hope that any further testing turns out just like these results!
