Soooooo, DH and I are going to register soon for our baby shower for our new baby boy, and I am trying to make a list of things that other mothers would suggest that I buy.

I know I am going to go in there and assume I need (well, want!) everything, but I realize that I will not use most of it! LOL

I have no children, so I am totally clueless, plus, I know that every mom is different ...

But - what are some things that you loved when you had your babies, or heard were really good to have?

Thanks mommies!

In all honesty, newborns don't need much at all. There are a lot of things that are handy but besides diapers, a few outfits, some burp cloths and somewhere to sleep there isn't much I can think of that a baby absolutely needs (if you're breastfeeding anyway). However, something that I highly recommend is some kind of baby carrier, preferably not a Baby Bjorn because they can be hard on the baby's hips. I really, really love my Ergo but we also have a wrap similar to a Moby that is great for tiny babies. Lots of moms like to use swings and/or bouncers, although my daughter didn't put up with being in the swing for very long...I was lucky if I could get 10 mins with her in there. Nursing pillows are great too. I've heard good things about the Boppy. Lots of people like swaddle blankets as well. My sister loved the miracle blanket. I've haven't tried swaddle blankets yet because with DD I thought they would be a waste of money, figured I could use a receiving blanket. Well, she ended up being able to bust out of those pretty easily This time I purchased 2 Swaddleme blankets.

My must have list for newborns:

*Place to sleep (crib, bassinet, whatever)
*Diapers, diaper cream, wipes, baby shampoo
*Clothes (I mostly use one piece footed sleepers and hats when they are tiny)
*Blankets (specifically swaddle blankets)
*Carseat
*Bouncy seat
*Swing
*Diaper bag

Some people don't end up using the bouncy seat or swing that much but my kiddo loved them and I couldn't have made it without them! You will probably also want a stroller and/or carrier but honestly I didn't use either that much until baby was a little older.

I think a little hygiene care-kit with nail clippers, thermometer, booger-sucker, etc. A bathtub. Monitor. Those are the only necessities I can think of in addition to what's already been said!

I would agree on these:

*Place to sleep (crib, bassinet, whatever) with sheets
*Diapers, diaper cream, wipes, baby shampoo
*Clothes (I used mostly onesies but had a summer baby)
*Blankets (specifically swaddle blankets - Halo sleepsacks were great)
*Carseat
*Bouncy seat
*Swing
*Diaper bag
*booger suckers a must
*thermometer
*bath tub
*baby carrier - loved the bjorn for really young and Ergo for older. Moby can be good but my baby did not like it.
*camera (I took tons of pics)
*baby laundry soap

I never used the boppy pillow.

I did not use the monitor much b/c I was not far from baby's room.

I also loved the breathable bumper for the crib and I still use it (DD is 17 months) to keep her limbs in the crib at night since she rolls all over the place.

Great for when they are a bit older - bumbo seat, jumperoo (my DD loved it)

somewhere to sleep
diapers
sleepers (PJ's)
carseat
Carriers are nice, so are strollers
A swing is not a must, but I loved being able to have a few mins not having to hold the baby
I always used my changing tables.
baby soap, something a little more gentle than regular soap

As they get older it's nice to not have to hold them continually, especially when they get heavier...that is where jumperoos, exersaucers, bumbo seats come in

My daughter was a screamer so she couldn't be put down in a swing, etc. My must have were....
-breast feeding pillow. She slept here a lot of the time. Her and I would both fall asleep during feeding lol
-swaddle blankets
-thermometer, nose sucker, fingernail clippers, etc.
-Sleepers. I never put DD in real clothes until she was bigger.
-Some sort of baby carrier. I made one that snuggled her against my chest. Like I said she couldn't be put down so this made my life soooo much easier...

I forgot about the suction bulb since I never had to use it. You might want to see if your hospital gives out the suction bulbs and nail clippers...I've read some do.

Did no one mention pacifiers???? I like gumdrops for newborns.

Swing
Bouncer
Bumbo
Pack n play (our baby will sleep in the bassinet for a while)
Carseat and stroller- I use them like that from the beginning
Carrier (I haven't used one consistently so I'm still searching)
Clothes (you don't really need to register for them)
Baby swaddlers/blankets
Bottles if you plan to ff

I'm getting a new breast pump bc my insurance pays for it.

Hi girls. May I suggest two things:
1. Philips AVENT 2 Piece BPA Free Soothie Pacifier (My kids loved these pacifiers)
2. Whole pillow boppy. NOT the crescent moon shape, but the whole pillow style. My little ones would sleep most of the day in these, they loved em.

my 2 cents, congratulations!

Our hospital sent us home with a medical grade suction bulb far better than anything I have been able to buy since when DS was born.
