So my regular OB has been on vacation for the last 6 weeks. Of course during all this time I've been seeing a locum filling in for him. She was the one who booked my c-section, set me up with the anesthetist at the hospital I will be delivering at, etc. He checked me out first - no weight gain since last appt (so up 9 lbs total this pg), bp was waaaaay down this appt 110/60, baby heartrate 140 as per usual, no swelling at all. He looked over her notes and left the room. Not a word to me...huh??
When he came back he said he had been on the phone cancelling everything the last dr had done. So my c-section is cancelled, he says theres no reason to think I will need one, all the "preparations" the anesthetist had made (epi as soon as I walk in, forcepts delivery, etc.) were taken off my record, and "regular vaginal birth" noted on my chart. I was super surprised. He says that baby is very big yes, but they're fully prepared for a big baby and I will be monitored super carefully. Plus with no induction and just my body going on its own he thinks even if baby is over 10 pounds I will be fine. I love that he has so much faith in me but this is the doctor who has never once even examined me lmao!!! I dont know if that matters at all but by golly man....
So, it looks like I'm back to square 1, and 3, and 5....and...and.....In the end I couldnt care less how baby comes out but seriously can they make up their minds already? I hate having to adjust to a new idea after each appointment...ugh.
Still on two week appts. Weekly NST's start next friday as well as a repeat glucose test to be sure. Even though my last one was totally fine. Things are going to start to get busy from now on!
It sounds like this ob just knows what your body can do, which is wonderful. The vast majority of women can give birth just fine, even to a big baby, but many doctors don't like leaving it up to nature! I know it's really hard to switch birth plans in your head so fast, but at least you won't have to go in knowing that they'll try to force all those interventions on you right off the bat!
