I just had to share becuase I'm so excited (and so few people IRL will know about baby for such a long time!).
I went in to the Birth Center today for a tour and pregnancy confirmation. I'm so thrilled with it!! It's a free standing birth center right down the road from work, and it's exactly what I'm looking for. It's just so nice and relaxed and everyone was so kind and warm. I just hope DH is okay with it. I think he's having a harder time accepting the idea of not giving birth in a hospital.
Amy, Birth Centers are I guess sort of a half way between a hospital birth and a home birth. They have trained medical staff (Certified Nurse Midwives) and certain medical equiment ready. They also have a set plan for transportation to a hospital when necessary (and the hospital in this case is less than 5 minutes away). But they can't do c-sections or administer epidurals. Their focus is on natural, baby/mother led labor. I like the fact that there is medical staff on hand for an emergency and that it's so close to a hospital becuase I absolutely know that emergencies arise often, but I also like that I can feel more assured that I won't be on a clock for labor or feel pressured into interventions if I don't want them.
