So, as many of you know, DH is insistent on Jay Michael III if we have a boy. I'm far from crazy about the idea, but I just don't know if I'll win this one. So...I need help. I don't want to call the baby Jay or Michael. Suggestions? DH has suggested JJ (Jay Jr. even though he's technically a III and not a Jr.), which doesn't thrill me, but I can't think of anything better. HELP!!!! TIA!

I feel your pain! Mine will be James IV if we have a boy. (There are more than 4 of them but I guess one James had a falling out with his father and dropped the numbers) My FIL goes by Jim. My husband's family calls DH Jimmy but he goes by James to most others. So I feel the pain. We are planing on adding a middle name into the mix (DH does not have one) and calling him some nickname of that.

So in your case is there a variation of Michael you like? Mic? Mike? Mikey?

How about JM? Then it would be a nod to both your husband as well as all of baby's JM "aunties".

You could always give him a third name -- of your choosing -- and then call him by that. You know, he could be Jay Michael ___________ (Last name here). That way, you've honored the request to continue the family name, but you're able to give the child his own unique name as well.

I'm hoping DH will come to a compromise on this. Or maybe we will find out it's a girl and this argument will be squashed for now. I love our girl name!

I'm with the above, I'd probably stick with Mikey or something if this is a battle you can't win.

Hmmm...have you looked into Michael in different languages - do you like any of the variants?! That could be a compromise.

Otherwise, I agree with the suggestion of adding a third name just for the baby, I went to high school with a guy whose family passed down the name; however, the men all went by their middle names.

I hope this helps a bit.

You have a few more weeks until you find out the gender, I would try not to stress too much until you figure out the gender...maybe your perfect little girls name is all you'll need.

My brother Michael was Mickey growing up and now that he is an adult goes by Mick.

Also, since he will be a third, have you thought about maybe Trey as a NN...just a thought.

I think you can compromise with an additional middle name OF YOUR CHOOSING that you get to pick and will be his name. Then if he wants to use Jay Michael for professional reasons he can.

My husband is Michael. I hated called him Michael so I called him Mike. He hates Mike. Our friends call him Mikey. It sounds ridiculous to me for a 40+ year old guy to be called Mikey.

So, give in to the tradition (unless he wants to name every kid Jay Michael in George Foreman style) and make it your own concept. What name would you choose instead for a boy?

I hope you get a girl so everyone's happy! It's hard when a guy wants his son named after him. How about like Jayden or Jaylen? Something close but not exactly?

I do also vote for JM LOL!
