I'm not sure many of you know "my story" really.. so I'll tell you a little background on myself...

18 months ago I moved to NY from OH to finish my college education at RIT. I'm an interpreter so I also moved here for work - as this area has a HUGE Deaf community. Well, months after I moved here RIT informed me that they messed up my paperwork and I wouldn't be starting until fall, 2014 (ugh!). The agency I was working with (as a contractor/free lance interpreter) didn't have as much work as I was promised. So it looked like I had moved here for no real reason - other than my DP was here (I met him on my first campus visit to RIT).. which was reason enough. lol.

So- I found full time work as an interpreter and loved my job. It lasted for 7 months and then I was laid off. The way that system works, if there aren't enough students in need of interpreters (they graduate, move to other school districts, etc) then the newest interpreters get laid off until there's more work.

Again, I felt like the move was for nothing- except my DP- but my career seemed to be taking a dive. I had to find work, outside of my field, making A LOT less than I do in my field (1/3 to be exact) and even A LOT less than I made working for OH state before I went to college to begin with! lol. That was a huge hit to my career ego.

At any rate- just yesterday, after only 6 months at my current job- I was told that I was getting promoted (if I wanted it of course) to the company admin. This came out of nowhere! And YES PLEASE!!!

(***PLUS - I have an assessment/interview for an interpreting agency next week for a full time position. This is something that would take months to hear back on because of the state regulations for the assessment, but it's a possibility after I give birth.)

Finally - things are looking up. I just had to share the good news since I'm NOT putting it on fb or anything yet. The news hasn't come out at work yet.
