I have several friends around me who are now preggo, and I would LOVE it if they used cloth too. I would like (for shower gifts) to get a couple practical then a couple super cute dipes, but don't really want to waste the money if they won't use them, kwim? I will ask them first before giving the dipes to them of course, but didn't know if any of you ladies do this as well or how you approach it, and if the friend is interested or possibly semi-interested, what types of dipes do you buy for them?

i tell all the mommies I know about cloth and how easy it really is, once you get the hang of it, but everyone thinks I'm crazy. lol. I haven't had anyone be receptive to me talking up cloth diapers yet.
Good luck! I would probably buy aio's or pockets for a first time mommy to try out. closest to disposables

I will from now on! AND I think giving them at a shower is a GREAT idea, BUT one thing that moms who are skeptical about is bulkiness. At least, that was my biggy. And easiness. So, I think Bumwares AIO Extremes would be a good compromise. From there, they should be totally addicted...I even use prefolds now!

I think that would be a GREAT shower gift!

I might think about before going to the shower, maybe going over to see her and bringing one of the cloth diapers you LOVE and showing her how to use it!! Just a thought!

I always let it be known that I use cloth, and most people come to ME for advice on it.

Yep, me too. I even had a friend at work (whose daughter just turned one) ask me where to buy CDs!! She is gonna get the Kushies AIOs from walmart.com. It's a start! She wants to start potty training soon, too... which I told her was another good thing about cloth... my DD has been in cloth since the beginning of February, and is pretty close to being PT ready!

Both my sister and SIL know I use cloth and when they got prego, they asked me about it and now both are going to use cloth! I made and bought dipes and made a cloth diaper cake for my SIL. I told her that if she decided not to use them then to give them back to me so I could get some or my money back. I didn't think I was in the wrong to ask such a thing and she was OK with that.

Around here, I don't think it would do me any good. Most people around here think it's very primitive, old timey thing to do. So I just answer their questions if they have any. I haven't gotten any rude comments yet. I don't know anyone IRL that uses CD's.... but I would love to help someone get started.

I would buy an AIO or pocket for someone...the trimmest one I could find. I hated the bulkiness when I first started CD, now I actually like it a bit. lol!

Ditto. I just like to show off how cute she looks in her fuzzi bunz and people see how easy they are and then ask me questions.
