Un-passwording the FSOT

Kate and I have been discussing this and we are both in agreement, but wanted to see if there were any major objections before we do anything. We are considering removing the password for FSOT for a couple reasons. 1) Her and I both are being overrun by PMs every day, some of them not-so-nice, and it's getting quite overwhelming and difficult to keep up with. 2) Anyone can buy, so tons of people have the password that are not authorized to sell, so we have to "police" it anyway and make sure no one is illegally selling (which we've had no problems with in a while, btw). We would make sure the rules for selling were posted on the forum description as well as inside the forum and anyone who didn't follow those rules would have their post deleted. I check that forum about 5 times a day and I know Kate checks it a lot too, so we would catch anyone who wasn't authorized to sell but we also know that our long-time members would alert us/report unauthorized posts as well.

So, does anyone have any major objections, questions, or concerns about removing the password?

I'm okay with it. Maybe with the rules posting we could post a list of those who have been authorized to sell?

There's a sticky inside the FSOT with that info, but yes, having it all together would be an excellent idea.

I have no issues at all with the FSOT being un=passworded. I think it's a great idea, actually.

Sounds like a good idea to me too. I lost the password a while back when I cleared my cookies and just never got around to asking for it again...

I have no problem with that either. I even like what Ashley said which is to post a list with names who are authorized to sell in there.

Im always confused about the "active members" thing. Since i've been active on this cd forum for over 2 years straight now but occasionally i'll go a couple months without popping in much when i get busy. I know a lot of the veterans would recognize me but maybe not the newer people who come along in the weeks where im mostly lurking...sorry for the ramble

Just saying people in my situation would probably agree to get rid of the password

besides, if someone wants feedback you can always give them your DS feedback, or ebay or something else right?

I agree, we should no who authorize sellers are, other then that its fine by me

I'm fine with a list of authorized sellers with the rules. That would help with members reporting posts to the hosts if they shouldn't be there.

I think no password would be great. I too keep losing and don't want to keep bugging for it, so I just don't look...even though I would like to take a peek every now and then. I also agree that some people may not recognize me, even though I have been around for a while, I just lurk a lot, so a list of approved sellers would be great as well.

sounds fine to me...and I ditto the other suggestion of keeping the rules posted for easy access so people don't get confused and make an honest mistake trying to sell before they are allowed ( I did that on accident WAY back in the day...I really had no idea

I don't mind not having a PW.

I would like to suggest a Feedback subforum though. We have one on the Dec 08 PR and I like that I can see the FB from here. I don't use DS or Ebay, so this would be my only form of FB.

this is exactly where I am too..
I've been an active JM member for almost 3 years, just not active that long HERE...

Plus, yah I have feedback on DS and on Ebay...
