I went and bought Dylon Fabric Dye and dyed all my prefolds this weekend. I dyed them lime green, yellow, red, and baby blue. Ill post pics as soon as they finish drying. I think my fav are the green and red. The prefolds that were kind of tan didnt dye so well, so not my favs. Im going to stay at my grandma's tomorrow and Weds b/c DH is out of town all week and we are gonna convert all my pf's into fitteds. Very excited about that!

Too cute. I have been thinking of doing this myself. I have some questions if you dont mind
Where is the dylon dye available?
How much does it cost per package?
How many prefolds can you dye with each package?
What did you dye them in? I have heard of people doing it in their washing machine but I live in a rental and the washing machine doesn't belong to me so I can't risk staining it.
Thanks!

Oh pretty I can't wait to dye mine, I bought some dylon at Walmart three weeks ago and just haven't had the time. Those are pretty way better than just white.

Where is the dylon dye available?
i got it at Joanns (but some say it's available at walmart and micheal's

How much does it cost per package?at Joanns i got it for $1.99 (with 40% off)per package and some were on sale for $1 with 40% off!! but they were all gone by the time i got there.

How many prefolds can you dye with each package?
i only dyed 2 at first but that's because i only wanted 2 of them dyed per color. but today i dyed 3 prefolds in orange and they turned out GREAT!

What did you dye them in? i did it in my stainless steel sink. then i scrubbed it out with windex all purpose after i was done. but you could also just soak the sink in hot bleach water to remove any stains.
then i washed them immediately afterwards in HOT water in my washer, the direction are REALLY easy on the package and i did it exactly like it said

well, the questions you asked were already answered, but my Walmart didnt carry it. i found it at Hancock Fabric for like $2. It was very easy. I however dyed like 7-8 with each package. Of course the latter ones were lighter than the ones I started with. I did it in my stainless steel sink and just washed it out afterwards. Very easy to do.

i did want to add that the package does say you can dye up to 1/2 pound of fabric (weighed when dry), so i did less because i have less prefolds and wanted a variety of colors, so only doing 2 or 3 in a color left more prefolds to be able to do in other colors. i HAVE TO TAKE PIX! my stash looks like a rainbow now!

My mom put a 14 year gap between her kids, so I have a 10 year old little sister....

Her birthday party was this weekend and they were doing tye-dye shirts....

So, As DH & I were chapperoning the event, we decided to grab some prefolds & onsies and we got the COOLEST results!

I'll take pics tonight - really easy with this kit mom bought - no mess at all!

The dye stays in bottles & you wrap them in saran wrap to 'cure' over night......

That's the kit we used to do T-shirts last summer.

Those prefolds turned out so fun!

how colorfast? im so sorry i have no idea what that means, but if you mean do they run afterwards or how long they stay bright..this is what i can say, i have washed all my colors together WITH my white ones and nothing ran (after doing one initial wash alone after dying). and i have washed some of the colored ones about 3-4 times already and they are still bright colored.

That's what I was wondering! Usually they say to wash all like colors together. I just can't see me rumaging through a pail of dirty diaps just to pull out all the red ones...KWIM!

Can't wait to get started building up my stash! I think I will have to put some of our junk, um I mean treasures, on e-bay and work with what we make from that to fund my stash. I am thinking of just starting everything out at 99 cents no reserve and hoping for the best. Better chance of getting it all gone and getting my stash started!
