DH and I have been talking about getting sposies for just the first couple days after birth...
I went and bought only ONE package of Swaddlers Sensitive just so we can use it for the first couple of days after birth due to meconium...
I already feel like I let down my child and she hasn't made her debut yet...
Please tell me I am a nut and not a failure... I have a full stock of CDs ready to go.... but I feel like I am already letting her down...

I don't think you're a failure. We decided ahead of time to use disposables for the first week after the birth. I'd been feeling a bit guilty about it before the birth, but after she came, I was really glad I had the disposables. I was just so exhausted at that time, I can't imagine having had extra laundry to do as well.

Of course you are not a failure...anything to make those first few weeks easier on you is worth it. I've been kinda feeling bad lately b/c we are going to use sposies next week while we are out of town...just don't want to deal with the poop without my sprayer, and all the washing....I'm sad already that he won't be in his cloth, but it will be so much easier.

We used sposies the first 2 weeks of Seamus' life, and we'll probably do the same when Rhiannon is born.
Not only did I not want mechonium in the diapers, but Seamus was just a little too small for a lot of his cloth at birth. Prefolds fit him at around 2.5 weeks... then AIOs fit him around a month old or so. I expect it'll be about the same with Rhiannon.
Definitely not a failure.

a LOT of mamas use sposies for the first few days/week. Its a very common practice, so don't beat yourself up about it!

I used a combo of sposies and cloth the first week because I am not going to lie - it was quite overwhelming having a newborn, nursing every 2 hours and then changing diapers every 1-2 hours with cloth and then recovering from a c-section and trying to make sure the cloth laundry got washed and ready to start again. I ended up using primarily cloth in the day and sposies at night for the first week. Don't feel bad at all!!!

Of course it's ok and doesn't make you a failure! I didn't even start cloth diapering until my Little Man was five months old. Even now, I would use disposables until the meconium stage passes in newborns. That stuff is sticky and would stain cloth diapers! The first few days are really tough. No need to add stress by feeling guilty about using disposable diapers. *hugs

We used sposies exclusively for the first two weeks... my little guy was circumcised, and we had to wait for it heal... but I STILL use sposies occasionally on my oldest two. DON'T feel like a failure. Do what works best for you!

I plan on just using sposies for hopefully just the fisrt week or until the meconium has passed...
I just felt sooo horrible the other day buying a package of sposies..... it felt like I was breaking the law or commiting a sin....

It will be fine. Don't feel like you are breaking the law mama, its OK. We used sposies for the first month of Lexie's life with a few cd's thrown in here and there. Like a lot of other mamas here, I just couldn't face the extra laundry with a newborn.

Ill probably use them when he first comes because my cousin gave me a bunch of free ones... DH is laid off and anything free is good... until I stock up on CDs.

Oh my gosh, don't feel guilty!! I used sposies for the first 4.5 months of Jackson's life! You are doing a great thing by choosing to CD, not wanting to deal with meconium in cloth should not make you feel bad!

We used the sposies that the hospital gave us at first. He wore his first cloth when he was 2 days old - all the meconium was gone at that point!

If I would have known that Lacey would grow out of her NB diapers in 2 weeks, I would have never invested the $$ in them!

ditto to what one of the other posters said about being sooo tired. You will appreciate the sposies for those first few weeks. I started CDing DD at around a month because that's when things started settling down for us and I felt comfortable enough to establish a laundry routine. Don't beat yourself up

i felt that way also I have to admit. I did a combo of cloth and some seventh Generation diapers (one pack) and used them that first week. I got over it quickly that 3rd night when I was getting frustrated with my prefolds....I was trying to do these weird folds and couldn't do it and it was driving me crazy. I will tell you not to fell bad but that would be the pot calling the kettle black since I did the same thing! LOl
