I'm in the prep phase with my prefolds. I thought, "I'm almost done! I'll just do this last cycle without adding any detergent 'cause there's probably some left over from previous cycles." Well, five cycles later of not adding detergent, and here I am still getting soap suds... What the heck?

(I was using Tide Free powder detergent, halfway up to the line below the 1, for a load of 36 clean diapers.)

How clear is the water supposed to be? I will wash until I'm blue in the face to keep Drew from getting diaper rash as soon as I put these on him, but I feel like I'm sort of overdoing it... Can I ever expect the suds to go away? There's still a pretty substantial amount of bubbles going on...

Wow - I use Tide powder, and use half way to the 1 line, and I have zero suds after the 2nd rinse. Guess I'm not much help!

It sounds like it could be something to do with your water and the detergent. If you use that on anything else it probably has buildup as well.

So is the water supposed to run completely clear for the diapers to be okay to use? I have MOST of the suds gone at this point, I did another run through... Not sure if I should go another round...

Are you sure they are soap suds and not just the water? You know when you fill a glass of water quickly it will sometimes foam for a second? If you stand there with the washing machine lid open, how quickly are the suds gone?

If you can do hot rinses it should help get rid of the suds faster.

The other loads were definitely soap, no doubt about it. This last load may have just been water bubbles... I think I'm finally done. WHEW.

Cut back on your detergent in the future, I'd rather have to rewash diapers bc they smell a tiny funky bc I didnt use enough detergent than strip and rinse, rinse rinse diapers to get buildup out ESP if you have pockets/AIO's too.

I don't have the scoop that came with my Tide anymore, so I can't say how close it would be to the 1 line. But I use 2 tablespoons for an average load and 3 tablespoons for a huge load. I think you could probably try less detergent next time. Also I noticed you said "left over from previous cycles" - if you used detergent more than once, that's your problem. You shouldn't ever need to use detergent in more than one cycle - whether you're washing, stripping, or prepping. With diapers, less is always more

ditto the above. I threw out the tide scoop. I use a 1/4 measuring cup, and a tablespoon. For prep loads i use 2 tablespoons. Maybe a 1/4 cup for heavy soils. Instead of doing double rinses, i just run another short HOT wash. Helps get the bubbles out.

oh you poor thing!! I remember having to do all that!!! I started out using Tide Free and Gentle and filled the same amt you did. I had to do about 7 or 8 full hot washes to get it all out!!!!

Now I use original Tide powder, and have FINALLY figured out that 3 tablespoons works perfectly for us. 2 was leaving a hint of stink and w/ 3, NO stink and no rash

It really is trial and error.

the kids were about 5-6 lol I used the body wash my self after I gave birth, I had 33 stiches and its the only thing I would dared to have put on my body and I even washed my hair with it in fear of the suds of my regular shampoo dripping down my body!!
