Ok first off, our washer..
It's a front loader.. LOL
Anyone have a front loading washer? My mom thinks it's a regular old washer, no HE or anything special. How many diapers can you fit in it without overdoing it? How much detergent do you use?
I have Crunchy Clean detergent and it gives an amount for a regular washer (I'm assuming top loader since they hold more) and then for a HE..
Do I just guesstimate and do something in the middle of the two?

Also, my diapers inserts are grey. I figured it was just the brand (Kawaii inserts) until I used my grandmother's washer and the diapers came out MUCH cleaner, a little whiter and smelled better..
And shortly after, the washer at my parents' stopped working as well. The spin cycle doesn't work.. You have to turn off the water supply and there has to be less than 1/2 a load of laundry in it for it to spin. So something is wrong with it.
They're still grey though.
Is it the inserts maybe? Or the washer? Water? The water at my parents' and my grandmother's house are the same.. They live in the same town, only 7min drive from eachother.
I'd use the hard/soft water map I've seen before, but it said they had normal water and I don't think they do, so not sure how reliable it really is.
Can't sun the diapers (we'll be living in a condo complex and I don't trust people well) so how can I whiten the inserts and make the pockets look less dingy?
I'm trying to start back on the right foot and be happy with cloth diapering again. It was getting to be a chore when the washer wasn't working as well and I gave up. They're packed away until we move, then going straight to the washer to be cleaned and used! I miss them.

You could try an oxyclean soak. Or maybe even just a soak with regular detergent.

The experience with your grandmother's washer tells you that the washer is not doing well enough since hers worked much better. Can you tell us more about your washer or post a pic of the control panel? If it is non HE there may be an easy way to get a good hot wash with lots of water. What cycle options does it have?

you could always just put them on a rack at a window when it is sunny that should also help..

Ooh the rack may work We have a sliding-glass door.
I'll have to post a picture after move day and once we settle and get internet set up. No access to the washer until the sale finalizes. I didn't get a good look at it aside from seeing that it's a front loader.

Yea, definitely see if you can get them in the sun, but a good soak in something like oxyclean may help as well. I have given up on trying to have white inserts...

I have a front loader too and bought crunchy clean for the CD's but still waiting till little chickpea is born to actually start knowing my washing process... I found this video on youtube to be very helpful...
It's called "How to wash Cloth Diapers (HE-High efficiency version)" by Jack Be Natural...
