*deep sigh* So, I'm not buying anything until at least a week from now (my anatomy scan is on Tuesday), but I still like looking. I came across an Etsy page that has a bunch of diapers. Cute patterns and whatnot. But then I was reading further and it says they're fitted and need a waterproof cover.

I just don't understand why you would have cute patterns if they have to be covered up! Same thing with the prefolds with the pretty panel. I just don't understand. Is there ever a time when you wouldn't use a cover? Like if you're just around home and really watching them?

I guess though honestly, it's the same thing as why get cute colors/patterns for diapers period since they're covered up by clothes. But... I don't know. Just having a hard time wrapping my mind around it. I guess it's a "cute surprise?" LOL Changing the diaper and "OH! Cute cover... OH! cute diaper under cute cover!"

Sorry... guess I'm just in a weird mood.

I had that exact same reaction when I first saw fitteds, lol! But it's like you said, why buy cute diapers period if they're gonna be covered up by clothes? If you can buy cute fitteds, go for it! It'll make diapers your baby and dealing with their poop a lot better than opening up a paper diaper every time!

The name "fitted" weirds me out too because I keep thinking it's just a particular size but then there are "one size" fitteds. They just confuse me.

Anyhow... I'm pretty dedicated to using cloth whether they're cute or not. But I have to admit, I've started reading peoples issues with smell and whatnot and the washing routines and I'm starting to get intimidated. My laundry skills are dump it in and leave it and come back a couple hours later when I remember to change it. And while I know that whether I cloth diaper or not, I'll have more laundry to do, I'm just still kind of in the OMG what am I doing?! stage. Right now I do two loads once or twice a week. That's it. Oh my how things will change.

a baby alone will change that whether you're doing diapers or not! Fitted just means it needs the cover over it. I'm partial to pockets myself. Fitteds are basically the guts of the pocket, so it can be "one size" too. Sized diapers are jsut that, sized

I know it's confusing, lol! I've been CDing for 3 years and still get confused on terms and such. Trust me, cloth is worth the initial hassle of trying to find your groove! Don't get discouraged!

I know the lingo is crazy, it all makes sense after awhile though you just get used to it!

Don't sweat the laundry, you see a lot of threads with people having problems, just because hey, I have a perfect laundry routine, let's start a thread about that! Uhhh, no lol. But if you have a problem, of course you post and ask questions about it, and people help you, and then you fix it and move on. And the ones with the biggest problems have the biggest threads so you notice those. But in all likelihood you will be fine. Prewash, hot heavy duty wash with Tide, and extra rinse is perfect for almost everyone.

Fitteds are sometimes used coverless around the house I do part time Elimination Communication so I sometimes keep her coverless for some play time where I don't want her totally naked (like on a rug) but so I can notice quickly when she pees. If you use super absorbent fitteds, the outside might just be a touch damp when the inside is really wet. But for most people it is just like cute underwear, you know it is there even if no one sees it in public. And it does make diaper changes a bit more fun

Oh I know that just having a baby (cloth or no) will be more laundry. I just am feeling a tad overwhelmed with the OMG how much more laundry will I be doing?!

Thinking of cute fitteds in the terms of cute underwear you don't see anyway makes it easier for me. I'm thinking that pockets will probably be my preferred, but now that I'm starting to understand fitteds a little more maybe I'll use them too. Who knows.

It IS overwhelming at first! But I promise you'll catch on quick! When I started my stash I had lots of all different kinds of diapers while I decided what I liked, and that worked well for me. As far as the washing, I do just "dump it and leave it" a lot. I try to come back to start the next cycle pretty quickly, but I'm not always immediately on top of it, and that's okay, too. I wash diapers twice a week. If I'm on top of it, the whole cycle (and mine is looooong!) is done in under 2 hours, but as far as my time, it's only restarting the washer a few times. I promise it's not as bad as it sounds And it took me a month or two to get a really good routine down, but now that I have one, I very rarely have issues. I thought I did a week ago or so, but it turns out it was just DS peeing heavier All that to say, you'll get a wash routine that works for you and it will be breezy from there! Like the pp said, people don't usually post about their great, easy routine, just about the problems

As far as fitteds, the name is definitely confusing!! Some people do just use them without covers around the house at home. I have a friend whose daughter is a really light wetter, and she'll never put a cover over her daughter's fitteds, even with clothes on. DS is a heavy wetter, and if we are just playing at home, there are times I'll leave him in a fitted without a cover, too. Plus, it's kind of like cute undies No one sees them, but it's still fun to wear them!!

this very question is quite often posted here and I have to agree - I found it really weird when i first started CD'ing... I guess it's for the same reason we buy cute panties... no one is going to see them (well... not in an everyday public setting! lol).. but we still buy them

I dont buy cute diapers unless they are the same price as the regular ones. I wont pay more for patterns or anything. They are covered up most of the time. Now if I can get something cute for the same price then I will. If you are making them and it doesnt cost any more to do them in cute fabric, why not?

We do go around the house sometimes without clothes on, just a diaper or with a tee now that its getting warmer. I dont go coverless at all. Ive tried just putting no cover on and running downstairs to grab a cover off the drying rack and every time she pees during that short little time and it goes straight through the prefold and onto my shirt. I dont know if she is just a super soaker or if prefolds dont hold as much as fitteds but i wouldnt go coverless because i would end up with pee on whatever she is sitting/laying on.

Thanks. I think that the "cute panties" thing helps.

Tuesday I find out boy or girl so then I will feel comfortable really shopping and getting into perhaps buying a couple diapers here and there.

I'm with you - I love browsing Greenchild's Etsy shop, but I'm like that's so cute - but it's going to be covered. Wish her diapers were pockets with those prints and not fitteds =)
I didn't post on this board for the longest time because everything we were doing was working fabulously. I had 12 or so one size bumgenius diapers and they worked great. I also never had problems with my washing routine (we have good water and I was lucky to right away find a detergent, Country Save, that works great for us).
Now that I'm trying to find a different diapering system since our BG's are wearing out and I don't like the 4.0s, I'm posted here more.

I've looked at a TON of different diapers, but often can't figure out the differences between them. I guess that's something that you see either if you have a better attention to detail than I do or from experience. What do you not like about the BG 4.0's?

I've only bought one diaper so far and I was told it was an AIO but then it has a cover, so I guess it's a fitted with a matching cover? I dunno. Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out what I like/want. So any insight is helpful!

As a maker, I can tell you that the flannel prints I use are cheaper to buy and have better sales than the flannel solids!! Crazy, I know. So my thinking is, why pay more to create something less cute?

LOL I didn't have any good experiences with pockets (leak city!!!), they were good only if I used them as a cover and not a pocket. Granted, it wasn't the fault of the diaper, but bc Kaiden was already 13 mo when we started he and pees too hard too fast, and it just couldn't wick thru fast enough. I see a lot of posts, moms with older babies/toddlers ~ all of a sudden their pockets are leaking, and the first assumption is usually that it's the fault of the diaper - the fit, needs stripping, etc. which sometimes is the problem, but sometimes it's the same thing that we experienced. I wouldn't want anyone else to have that same problem with something I create. I LOVE fitteds, therefore I make fitteds.

Another up-side for fitteds for us is the ability to use fleece as a cover. Most nights I put Emerson to bed in a fitted with a fleece cover. If he wears a pocket to bed (or any other combo that uses PUL), he often wakes up with a red bum. The fleece breathes so much more it really keeps his bottom feeling better.

hah! Apparently it was your Etsy shop that I happened across somehow that I loved the diapers and I was like "Wait...what? Those are fitteds? But... *brain explode*" Or if it wasn't yours initially, yours was one of them.

Do your fitteds work with a snappi? I noticed you mentioned using pins. I'm scared to use pins. But I'm intrigued by your diapers and I may end up ordering some if I can figure them out... If I'm understanding correctly, the front part you fold down depending on how big you need it to be, right? What's the "range" on your diapers? Like, would I be OK to get them for newborn stage and go until ?? or are they an older diaper?

I think y'all might have me convinced on fitteds at least partially. If I'm understanding everything correctly, they're more absorbant than pockets and AIO's. And easier to use than prefolds 'cause they're already diaper shaped, right? Did I just have a breakthrough moment?
