I started a group on Facebook, for the members of this board - for the times that JM is down, or if members don't feel comfortable posting about something on JM, to get to know members better in a more off-topic way etc etc etc... It's most definitely not a place to gossip, or b*tch about anyone on JM (I know we're not that type of group anyway, but has to be said!)...

You should be able to request to join now

Sent a request to join group.
Hope it doesn't make this page into a ghost town-that's what happened to one of my DDCs.

I'm really not a fan of the trend of FB groups starting and then eventually replacing groups here. I think this board is slow enough...

Yea, I agree. Things used to be pretty lively here. I sometimes wonder if all of the prompted threads "like "WWYD" and "If you had to choose...") have made lurkers and newbies hesitant to post their own threads.

I don't mind the fb groups...but I hope it doesn't make it dead in here. It happened in our pr right after the babies were born. It's sad to not see the people come back to the boards.

We had a boom of new friends...but it seems quieter in here lately. Partly, I am guessing springtime weather has folks out and about. I know we have been out more (minus this past week cause the kids were sick).

I agree with the concerns of FB replacing the groups here (not just the CD board, but in general). It really took a toll with our PR, and we've had a tough time building the JM board back up. I like FB and know it has it's place and some benefits, but I love JM and the forum look. I would be so sad to see groups disappear because of FB.

IDK, I think we'll be okay here . . . people always want to talk fluff, and we get newcomers all the time Kaiden's PR is about dead, and I left it quite awhile ago for different reasons . . . still keep up on FB with a few people from there, but as far as I know there isn't a FB group for that PR.

There are just some things that FB doesn't offer...like pinned topics, subgroups, etc that I find super helpful here. And I like that things don't get lost in the mix where the in the groups on facebook they do..

I left other due date clubs just because I didn't really fit in. Hard to fit in when your baby was born 4 months earlier than everyone else's. I come back here though, even if I don't post a ton. I can't keep track of everyone on FB anyway so I have to come here to remember who everyone is

Well I joined too just to avoid missing out on any action but don't anyone try to friend me, because I am an anonymous FBer with NO FRIENDS (just imagine)... I joined FB just a few weeks ago so I could keep up with my local mommy meetup group, and also my DDC that had migrated there... and I only use it in a special dedicated browser so that Facebook doesn't track me all over the internet... yeah I am not really too into FB

I also don't love the FB group format, it gets jumbled up quickly and it is easy to miss things, and I miss seeing the silly smilies like this one

I'm REALLY concerned about that also. Maybe b/c it is new, but it seems to already be busier than the board is. Geeze, there are 60+ members on there already, but I know we don't have that many posting here every day. Our board is already really slow, so I'm worried about everyone going over to FB and leaving the board in the dust.

I know in general Fb is easier for me. Also I've noticed some of the posts on Fb aren't much if anything...more hey hi hello whereas I'm sure ppl think thus board us just for cd and questions etc. But I could be wrong.

My JM playroom died after the facebook group was made. It's a bummer because I like the forums. I'm active on both the fb board and the JM board about the same amount (which isn't much, sadly) but I do miss the big active board we used to have.

The main benefits of FB are just better software design. Automatic notifications when someone comments on a post you started or commented on, or mentions you by name. Very very fast and smooth posting, not all buggy and with site downtime like the forums get. I like the general approach of the forum better but IMO it needs serious updating to the interface and how it works overall, and it needs a good free app for mobile devices, if it wants to compete with FB. Just speaking as a tech nerd's wife and mild tech nerd myself...

Not at all true with FB, though. My FB app is crazy buggy and hard to use (I've not tried forum runner since I'm on a computer all day, though). There are often times when FB won't load properly, both on my phone and computer. Also, the notification system has become a huge mess lately. Things get lost on the group walls so easily. As far as ease of use, the forum is so much easier to keep track of things!

I do. It hangs frequently and fails to load images about 1/2 the time. I've stopped re-sending posts after it hangs because it usually results in a double post, but still like 1/4 of the time I lose my post instead. I still use it a ton though but it works best for lurking, which is not conducive to keeping the boards active. It also doesn't show the cartoon smilies which makes me

As to the FB app, I don't use the app because it tracks your location. I use the mobile website inside Opera Mini. My phone is an Android. I haven't had any trouble with that, it's super minimalist but works fine. IME browsers are the most reliable internet-connectors on phones and mobile devices. In fact I bet if JM just had a good mobile version of the forums website, making it easy to browse and post without all the junk in the header and sidebar and so on, it would help people get on the boards from their phones a whole lot.

I do really support JM staying as active as possible and I think I do my part. I just think some improvements on the technology would help them compete more effectively with alternatives like FB groups. I believe it will happen eventually, it has to, right?
