Have you ever used cloth on a road trip or would/did you use sposies instead?

If you used cloth, what did you use, and how often did you stop to change?

Did you deal with any compression leaks?

If you had any issues, what would you do differently next time?

I ask b/c all of our family lives about 7 hours away, and we go up there for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a couple other times during the year if we can. We always drive. My DH would rather use sposies while we are gone, but I'd like to bring our cloth along b/c we have access to a washer/dryer at both places that we stay (DH's parents' house/my parents' lake house). I'm curious if sitting in a carseat for that long affects how well my cloth will work and if I have to take that into consideration in choosing which dipes he/she will wear on the road.

Yes, a few trips that were 4 days or less. For long drives we put him in a double stuffed pocket, or a pocket lined with a wool soaker, and once a we included a plastic cover over the diaper(this was not needed, I was worried because it was our first roadtrip).
Once at our destination we used regular pockets. We brought a medium sized planet Wise zippered wetbag for everything.

If you used cloth, what did you use, and how often did you stop to change?

The longest drive we took was about 6 hours and we didn't change him once. He's gone 12 hours overnight with no leaks so we weren't concerned.

Did you deal with any compression leaks?

Never had any. Not on trips-not ever actually. The only time I get leaks are when I use sposies(and when his daycare kept putting his diapers on wrong)

If you had any issues, what would you do differently next time?

No issues, works great. I wish I could use cloth on all trips, but we've had a few long trips with no access to laundry so we've had to do sposies a few times.

Have you ever used cloth on a road trip or would/did you use sposies instead? We have taken long road trips. AZ to CO then CO to NE and we used cloth.

If you used cloth, what did you use, and how often did you stop to change? We used AIO easiest to change in the car or public bathrooms. We would stop every three to four hours. Sometimes a little longer, when we had to pee or eat we would stop and change her then.

Did you deal with any compression leaks? Nope

If you had any issues, what would you do differently next time?It was pretty simple and didn't have any issues.

If you used cloth, what did you use, and how often did you stop to change? I was bringing only flats and some liners/doublers with me for the trip. For the road I folded up a few quasi-nighttime diapers - a flat with another flat padfolded as a big doubler, and a fleece liner on top. Covered with a Thirsties Duo wrap. It was a 5-6 hour drive and we stopped to change once (we had to stop anyway and she woke up so I changed her).

Did you deal with any compression leaks? No, I don't use microfiber, I had plenty of absorbency, and I used PUL covers, so there was no risk.

If you had any issues, what would you do differently next time? No issues, I would do it again exactly the same!

Trips to the cabin are 6 - 7 hrs. We stop anytime we need to use a restroom, and I always check Kaiden's diaper at the same time. And he lets me know when he's wet (in the car, not at home!!! ), so if we need to stop more often we do. But he *usually* won't pee while we're on our way somewhere.

We use fitteds with PUL covers And before we got the A/C fixed in the truck we'd just put Kaiden in a fitted, but lay the PUL cover underneath him instead of fastening it on him. Never had any leaks while traveling.

If you used cloth, what did you use, and how often did you stop to change? Just regular RaR pockets with both inserts. I stopped to change him as often as I had to go to the bathroom myself. Which was once or twice along the way (we've done a 9 hour road trip and a 7 hour road trip). I guess we stopped every 4ish hours.

Did you deal with any compression leaks? Nope

If you had any issues, what would you do differently next time? Nothing. Maybe get a car DVD player, but that's not diaper related.

We've done many long road trips (14+ hours in a single day). Always do cloth. I do usually double up my bamboo inserts in my pockets. Whenever we have a gas stop, we also take care of feedings, diaper changes, stretching out, etc. Never had a leak. Never have had an issue other than the wet bag smelling after a 2 day car trip across country in the summer. lol.

We took a 5 day trip last summer including 10 hours of driving each way. We used cloth the whole time without an issue. I had enough that I didn't need to wash while we were gone (and there was plenty of room in the car to bring it all!). I divided the laundry into 2 loads after we got home.

I didn't time our stops around changes, I just changed him every time we stopped for anything else. With a 3 year old in the car, that was probably every 2-3 hours anyway.

No issues with leaks.

We haven't, but I'm trying to decide if I should this summer when we drive 8-10 hours to my mom's house. Also, my mom has a HE front load washer, so I'm not sure how to do diapers in that. I guess I could go to a laundry mat for a small wash every other day if I had to. This also depends on whether or not Sarah will go with me. She did last time. The drive was horrible because neither kid likes the car seat much, so we may just try to drive at night while they sleep.

I used pockets, prefolds and flats

Did you deal with any compression leaks?
Nope

I think next time I would just use pad folded flats, perhaps with fitteds for night

We regularly travel with the boys (when I saw we, I mean ME. Lol) and use cloth both in the car and when we arrive at my folks house (or DHs, but we have only been there twice because it is a good 18 hours away). It is not as bad, because the trip generally takes 3-5 hours (three is with great traffic, no stops, no construction, often middle-of-the-night driving), four is a typical trip with the traffic patterns and a couple stops, five is for the summer when beach traffic is horrible). So I usually just put a regular diaper with an extra doubler for the trip. Especially since I still have to stop for nursing kieran or to pee myself or because Liam needs to stretch and can change them at that time. We are planning to take cloth to the beach about 9 hours away this month and will do it the same as when I go to my folks house. Or DHs parents. Just stop to change them. We don't get compression leaks, nor would we do things differently
