I know Im only 2 days past my due date but I'm a very anxious I feel like every day he doesnt come is another day that something could go wrong or just another day closer to an induction or even a c-section. So if you went overdue was there anything you did that finally got you into labor? I've been walking and having sex and eating pineapple and some other minor things but I need to try more things. If nothing else then I will at least feel like Im doing something.

Just stay active and do what you can to distract yourself. Nothing is going to make your baby come faster. It's VERY normal to go to 42 weeks, so you've got a ways yet till you're truly past your due month (38-42 weeks). In fact I have a friend who is currently 42 weeks, 3 days! She had a scan today and all is great still. Remember not all babies grow at the same rate once born, and they definitely don't all grow at the same rate in utero!

I went just a couple days over but I had been gently encouraging labor. Walking, sex, gentle bouncing on an exercise ball, gentle pregnancy yoga like quadraped, relax and meditate on your body and baby and the process of opening up and the baby being born. Try to distract yourself from stressful thoughts. Good luck hun

Being late is much more normal than naturally being early Don't worry yet! The average first baby is actually born at 41 weeks, not 40!

DS was a week late (he wouldn't start labor because he was posterior). I ended up being induced using prostaglandin suppository (so, basically, had I been having sex it may have worked ). No pitocin or anything like that. I only needed one and it kicked started labor in about 15 minutes (the expected me to need at least 2, 10 hours apart, so I was prepared for a long stay). He was definitely ready. They only induced because my placenta was starting to break down. Even with the "induction" (which, really, it was nothing), I was able to have a drug free, natural birth.

I have a friend who had a similar problem (posterior baby wouldn't start labor) and she self induced with an enema.

with my first i was overdue and developed pre-eclampsia so they induced me. the 2nd time i was freaking out hoping i didnt go over due because the longer i was pg the more chance i would have of developing pre-e again. I ended up being on bedrest because my bp was going up so i couldnt do anything to encourage labor. She ended up being born 3 days past her due date naturally.
Hang in there...i know what its like to be freaking out about things that can go wrong the longer baby takes to come. I hope you go into labor very soon and have a fast easy delivery

I never went overdue with my kids but my oldest waitied until the day he was due to cause a riot..My second came naturally 2 weeks before my due date..and My daughter was induced 2 weeks prior to my due date due to complications..And I have to say..I don't understand all the hype about pitocin..its not any worse than natural labor..I had to have it with my first son as well because my labor slowed down after my water broke..I had all my kids naturally..I think most women are told it makes labor worse so for them thats it..they don't want it..Actually my artificially induced labor was by far the easiest..LOL..But if you are hoping to get things going more naturally You could try red raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil caplets..I took those in the few days leading up to my induction so my cervix was ready(it softens the cervix and makes it more favorable for dilation) sex does the same thing but who wants to get it on at 9 months pregnant..LOL

^^I think is is quite abnormal for one to have an easier pitocin birth than a natural, non-augmented birth. And I think, in general, most women don't want pitocin, not for the pain aspect, but for the intervention aspect. Once the interventions begin, it can quickly turn into a cascade of them. It doesn't happen every time, not by a long shot, but it can happen much easier. This coming from someone who had a natural, non-intervention birth AND a pitocin augmented one. I found a great deal of difference between the two..the pain sensation being one of the most major differences.

But anywho...that little side note aside. I know that I have heard people trying all kinds of things (raspberry tea, enemas, pineapple, sex, walking being some of them) and it seems like everyone responds to such things differently. I know pumping (like a breast pump) can get things moving if you are close. My good friend and success with that when she was 42 weeks. And I think that climbing stairs is something my doula suggested. For the squatting and get things moving even more than just walking.

Hopefully your little man will just decide he is done in there. And join you very soon!! Can't wait to see his little face (and bum...because this IS a cloth diapering board )

Yeah I'm not keen on a pitocin induction because ive seen the cascade effect happen to two good friends and it was very rough. But it turns out I'm really really not cut out for being late, the last few days I've tried to stay busy and in good spirits but I'm losing the battle.
Not as a pity party but to explain and vent a little, It took us a lot of work to get pregnant and we experienced loss and we had a scare with this pregnancy around 20 weeks so I've been very nervous and now to have him still in there is making me very very anxious, like after all I've been through I still don't have him and something could still go wrong. Im not uncomfortable, I don't have something better to be doing, I dont need my body back, I just need my little man in my arms safe and sound.

So, I know something will only work if he's ready and all that but when Im just sitting here doing nothing, Im waiting and analyzing every little thing, and getting in my own head so I appreciate all the ideas and Ill try anything safe because it means Im at least doing something and theres always the chance that it will be "the thing that works"

I've heard walking along a curb, one foot on the curb and one foot on the street. But I don't know! I kind of think the baby just comes when it is ready? You could ask your dr to strip your membranes.

Hugs, I know it is hard, when you've experienced pregnancy loss it is hard to trust your body.

I remember going and watching a lot of Youtube and surfing blogs with tips for natural birth. One was about "spiraling". Just to try to get yourself in a positive mindset and proactively looking forward to the birth. Since you can't help but obsess over it lol.

I would ask a doctor before using a breast pump. I was told it was very dangerous to use one while pregnant and that it can cause abruption. There's always more old fashioned forms of nipple stimulation though

I got to ~7 cm on my own just fine, but had meconium in the waters when they broke it, and labor was not progressing at all, my contractions stopped. So I took pitocin and it was a different ball game, could not take those contractions well, it hurt like hell. I got to 9 but then was stuck again with the overwhelming pain so I had an epi. Then had a vaginal delivery a few hours later. So overall it was not the dream birth but I was in a very non NCB friendly place (Mississippi) so I figured it was decent. Anyway maybe they had my pit jacked up too high but I found it wayyyyyyy worse than natural contractions, every birth is different though.

I did a little black and blue cohosh and delivered the next day. Not sure I would do it again though as there are questions about safety. I was in a crazed "I'm done" frenzy after being on bedrest for half my pregnancy. I was super nesting while I was taking it though, so it's very possible labor was coming anyway.

REALLY??

Wow...I have never heard that before. My midwife often recommends the breast pump (on a low setting!) for starting labor or helping it progress if it stops or slows dramatically. I had no idea it was linked to dangers. I fail

And I totally understand that "something can still happen" feeling. I felt it my entire pregnancy with Kieran and honestly, it never fully went away. I still freak out that he could stop breathing or will bonk his head "just right" and cause a traumatic injury. Loss changes people. It always makes me sad when a mama has one on her first pregnancy...because that blissful sense of being pregnant and on "cloud nine" disappears and she is always on guard for later pregnancies. I just hope he takes it easy on you and is safely in your arms very soon

I was really desperate to go into labor before 40 weeks because I have juvenile diabetes and they were going to induce me at 40 weeks, even if everything looked good with baby. I was also worried something would happen because poorly controlled diabetes can cause the placenta to break down. I was under very good control but of course I worried anyway. I went into labor 39+3 and had her 39+5. I basically had some no thrills sex with DH, ate spicy food, pineapple, tried to walk. All along I had been drinking RRL tea but I heard that it was supposed to strengthen the uterus, not start labor anyway. I've heard that evening primrose oil applied to the cervix is supposed to work as well as eating eggplant Parmesan. Hope baby makes an appearance soon and you have a safe labor!

You don't fail! My midwife and my homebirth midwife both recommended using a breast pump to help start labor. So did my son's pedi (his wife runs the birthing center). I tried, but it didn't work for me. It's probably just like anything else Anything is possible, but probably also hard to prove. Doctors have different advice and opinions all the time.

Sorry, No advice from me. My over due baby was so stubborn after 36 hours of induction she still had to be csection out.

my greatest fear, okay not my greatest because that would obviously be losing him, but 2nd greatest!

Heading into day 5, Baby boy is super low I can only sit with my legs spread wide, mildly painful contractions yesterday all night and today but unorganized and not strengthening, Im sore and tired. I had a great pregnancy but I really want to have this baby already!

I totally understand the anxiety aspect of it.. I have an anxiety disorder, which gets a lot worse during pregnancy - so when I made it to 42w with my eldest DD,. you can imagine how horrible things were getting for me!
