We live in Germany and are planning a trip to the States later this year. I want to get some cloth diapers while we are there because American/Canadian brands are not available to us over here. Obviously I would like to try every cloth diaper under the sun but that isn't possible because I will have limited space in my suitcase. What, in your opinion would be the best brands/types of cloth diapers to try? Oh, and DD is quite chubby , if that makes a difference for what brands or types would work well.

Bumgenius and rumparoos are some of my favorite US brands.

I am in New Zealand and a lot of those brands aren't readily available here either - I wish I could go to the US JUST to try all these diapers

I actually have a weakness for certain European brands, like Imse Vimse and Disana. It is mostly easy to get that stuff here though. I guess the American brands I would recommend are Cotton Babies (makers of BumGenius) - I love Flips, and of course Green Mountain Diapers for prefolds, big birdseye flats, wipes, etc. It depends on what you're looking for of course. Have fun shopping!

Are you not able to order diapers online?
I have diapers from several countries, but the majority are online purchases.
It's rather difficult to find stores that sell cloth.

You cannot beat Sun Babies, Alva, and KuWaii for the price. Personally, I think Alva are the best of the 3 for chunky legged babies.

Theoretically I could order online but shipping is ridiculously expensive. It just wouldn't be worth it. The plan is to order online when we're in the States and then have them shipped to us while we're there

Is Alva the same as the chinese diapers they sell on ebay/ the alvababy website? If so, I'm so excited because I just ordered a few of those! I was worried they would be not very good because they are so cheap, but the shipping was free so I thought I might as well try them out.

Yep Alva and Sunbabies are from China. I love them.
I'm actually really fond of Haute pockets too, but the velcro kind of sucks. My 9 month figured out how to undo it. And the velcro looks ratty faster.

Where wil you be when you're here? I would try to find a cloth diaper shop if you can. It's so nice to be able to touch and feel all the diapers. We have a great one here in Minnesota called All Things Diapers. I've only used a few brands. BumGenious 4.0 is pretty big, but my hook and loop on those wore out pretty quick. I like Blueberries but they are very expensive. I should really try Alva and Sunbaby.

Hmmm...I def think BumGenius. Maybe a 4.0, a flip, and an elemental. They are all good. I think BG products are pretty good quality and are well-liked across the board.
For your bigger baby, we are LOVING Bottombumpers. It was Sarah (Shen7) who turned us onto them. Her daughter is on the higher end of the growth charts and is a few months ahead of my HUGE son. And I commented that I wanted something that would fit him for longer, since I know he is going to keep growing rapidly until at least the end of the first year. And she said she likes Bottombumpers. So I got some...and I adore them! We had nine and i actually just bought five more. So maybe try one of those on your daughter. Especially if she is tall along with chubby.
