I bought a bunch of CD at value village for 1.99 each so I couldnt pass them up...lol.

No matter how much I research I just get more confused...lol. They are very thick cloth. They are velcro, there is no plastic cover.

Because they are so thick can I just put in an additional layer to absorb or do I have to have a plastic cover? I just love the designs on so many of them and dont want to cover them up...lol.

if you were just using them at home you could go coverless and change more often, because they dont have a waterproof layer they will leak without a cover, so if you want to use them while out and about i would use a cover

if they are just thick fabric with velcro that is a fitted and it needs a cover most of the time. You might be able to get away with no cover at home for short periods of time with no clothing over it if its thick enough. If you put clothing over it it will leak onto the clothing and if they are sitting in a carseat the seat will get wet.
I would avoid the plastic covers and go for PUL (polyester with a laminated back to make it waterproof), wool or fleece cover.
