At the shower yesterday, a few people asked for my information to contact me about making them diapers. I told them all that I don't generally make diapers for sale, but I could do some for them as long as they each ordered several at a time and we'd discuss pricing when they contacted me. I'm trying to get a number in mind. The diapers I made and they saw were XS and S flannel closureless fitteds and PUL covers.

Two of the women are not people I know personally and would probably charge them more retail type rates. Another woman is the wife of one of my oldest friends (she's 11 weeks pg); her mother expressed interest in buying some too. I'd already planned on making my friend and his wife a lot similar to what I made for his sister (the mama the shower was for). I'd probably want to give her mom a decent deal since they'd be for such a close friend.

Anyway, what would you expect to pay for the following:
8 fitteds?
8 fitteds with 2 covers?
16 fitteds?
16 fitteds with 4 covers?
Is there another combination you'd want? What would you pay for it?

$6 for fitteds each, $10 for covers... Does that sound reasonable?

You should break down how much your materials cost and how many hours of labor it takes you to do each one, too, just to get some sense of how much work you want to take on. Like, if you're barely breaking even on materials alone, you might want to stick to gifting them to friends rather than making them to sell to strangers, kwim?? At each price point, what does that work out to for a $/hr for your labor? Just something I'd be thinking about if I were you. There's also overhead involved but that's minimal at this stage.

I think I'd pay not much more than $8 for xs or s flannel closureless fitteds with cute prints that were well made. $10 for basic PUL covers sounds reasonable, or more if there was anything fancy to them like rise snaps.

For market comparison, Wallypop (a WAHM who keeps her prices VERY low) has $10 flannel fitteds with closures, and $10 basic PUL covers, for her premade stuff - slightly more for customs. HTH!

Personally, I would charge more for the fitteds than the covers. I don't know about you, but I can sew up a cover pretty quick, while a fitted not only takes more time, but more fabric. Take in the cost of materials, add an hourly charge for you to make them, then maybe discount the hourly charge for those you know.

how much would each fitted and cover cost you to make? and how long would it take you to sew them up? I would base the cost off those 2 things, are they sized or OS? I would pay more for something OS than sized

Send a message via Yahoo to Rachel
I've never purchased a fitted and of course could never dream of making one, so I'm no help! Good luck!

My friend who makes diapers takes her cost then doubles it and adds a dollar. I think she gives 10-15% off for friends and family.
