My SIL seems to think my wash routine is an unnecessary waste of time.
I toss em in on a cold wash/cold rinse cycle (no soap) to flush all the body fluids out. Then I hot wash with soap cold rinse, then warm rinse.
Lately, since I've done bleaching them I actually 4 times instead of 2 just to make sure it's all out.
Take more time? Yes. Sparkling clean, stainless dipes? Indeed
What's your wash routine?

rinse cold (dab of dawn)
wash hot with detergent
once a week, extra light wash with borax
cold rinse
To conserve water, I only do the wash load with a full load of water. The other rinses are set to small/medium load.

~1/4 cup of bleach in bleach dispenser
1/2 capful 7th gen fabric softener in fabric softener dispenser
Tide or 7th gen detergent, as recommended for large load
Sanitize cycle, Heavy Soil level, +2nd Rinse on a Kenmore HE FLer
That's it, one cycle We dump, pre-rinse and spray Bac-out on all the poopy diapers.

Um, your wash routine isn't that complicated...I wonder why she thinks its a waste of time? It's your business even if you want to do a naked rain dance in front of the washer and sing a tribal song over your diaper laundry
Ours is similar....but so simple it doesn't seem routine-like to me. Cold rinse, hot/cold wash with tide, cold/cold cycle with nothing. Done. Like que, we do the main wash on super water level and the first rinse, last cycle on medium level. I do wash a solid 25 dipes, so it's a little more than a small load.

I do a rinse and spin no soap
rinse..no spin..no soap.
Add a tsp of Calgon and two tsps of Nellies with a stain wash in cold.
Separate the inserts from the outers with PUL. Run the inserts on Sanitize (no soap). two extra rinses. Run the PUL covers in a warm cycle (no soap) and again two rinses. But Brenna has super sensitive skin and any left over soap leaves her rashy. So compared to my washing routine yours is simple and easy!

I have an older machine. After reading all of these I am thinking I am not doing enough. I do a cold rinse with no soap, then I do a hot wash with extra rinse and extra spin with 2 tbsp of Ruby Moon. Is that enough?

If it works, it works! If it ain't broke don't fix it, as they say. It doesn't sound like enough detergent to me, but I have hard water, which requires more and more heavy duty detergent/additives.

Honestly? I don't really know what my washer does. I set it to hot with an extra rinse. The diapers always seem to come out perfect.

I spray all poopies and do a cold rinse nightly of just poopies (my son poops MULTIPLE times a day, on Wednesday- it was 6 times.) and then store them in a bucket by the washer.
To wash:
Cold rinse.
Hot wash with Ruby moon.
Two rinses in cold.
Then I remove all synthetic fibers and use Mrs Myers fabric softener on my fitteds/natrual fibers. Sometimes I do a soak in Mrs Myers. I love that stuff.
Every so often I put 1/4c bleach in with my inserts (actually did it with all my pockets this week and was so worried but nothing was even faded) and then rinse after.

Do what works for you and don't worry about what other people think!
I do 3 full heavy wash cycles with super water level - one cold without detergent, one hot with detergent, and one hot without detergent.

I have a HE front loader. I do a quick cold wash no soap. Then I do a hand cycle on warm with detergent and ecover with an extra rinse and then an active wear cycle (good for microfibers) on cold with extra rinse no soap.

I'm still experimenting to see what works best. I recently had to strip my fitteds because they stank. First tried stripping with dawn (didn't work!) then vinegar and baking soda. Needless to say I don't want to be doing that again for a while so I've been rinsing like crazy. We have a he front loader. Lately we haven't been doing a pre wash, but rather half our detergent on the "baby cycle" (it automatically does an extra rinse) at 60c but sometimes 40c and then after that I usually manually program another rinse or two. Since the stripping fiasco we've been using vinegar in one of the rinses. We also exclusively line dry.

Cold/Cold wash with either baking soda, vinegar or a tiny bit of detergent. Hot/Cold wash with the full amount of detergent.

I think I've finally got our routine down for our HE front loader. Washing takes about 2 hours.
I spray almost everything off first before it goes in an open laundry basket.
soak cycle (warm water) with a scoop of oxi clean. Occasionally I add something like zeolite too.
Allergen cycle (uses the most water) on Hot with a regular amount of whatever laundry detergent I have, plus an extra rinse.
One more rinse/spin cycle with cold water.
Everything then gets thrown in the dryer on HOT.
