I want to be able to buy laundry detergent for cloth diapers at my local wal-mart, but so far I have not seen anything at any of the stores I shop at on the approved lists. I really did not want to have to order detergent online. Can anyone recommend something they use from their local stores that works?
I would honestly take the "approved list", crumple it up, and throw it out. I think it's a bunch of boloney. As far as I'm concerned, any detergent that cleans your diapers is approved in my book. The only thing I'd avoid is anything with fabric softener added. I use Tide. Plain old, basic Tide. Some people use Purex, Gain, etc. Cloth diapers are not made of unicorn hair. They will not melt, disintegrate, or lose their magical, sparkly properties if washed in store bought detergent.
Sorry, I get a little snarky about this. I hate seeing people wrack their brains stressing about detergent when perfectly good options are easily available. I'm not sure who started the myth that detergents HAVE to be something special, but I wish they hadn't. I really think it causes a lot of people a lot of undue stress.
Ditto to the Tide, but I've switched to Ruby Moon recently (have to order it online) but the tide worked for us too

I agree with Shannon. I had nothing with problems with 'CD safe' detergents. We have switched to Tide F&C (F&C because I don't want to risk a scented detergent on L's sensitive skin) and never looked back.

i use charlies soap.
i used regular liquid tide with my son's diapers a few years back and it worked fine but people said it was reformulated and its not as good now. Im not sure. By us charlies soap is actually cheaper than tide and our whole foods and fresh market stores carry it.

Our local store carries Country Save. Its CD safe.
I would try out Tide because SO many cd-ing mommas use it and have good results.
Our family has SUPER sensitive skin and I won't even wash our clothes let alone diapers in anything with enzymes added to it. It makes us all rashy anywhere there is moisture (arm pits diaper area) as that is its job. Right now I am using Nellies Laundry Soda. I got it off Amazon. I LOVE it!
I use Country Save. I found it at a local co-op, but now I buy online. I get a case so it lasts years. I don't have to worry about running out =)
I hope you can find something that works for you. We just have really sensitive skin here so I chose something without additives.

Tide F&G. Recently bought some 7th Generation unscented and have been using that, just because I was too lazy to go to the bigger store (I grocery shop almost exclusively at a local natural foods store that only carries "eco" brands). Powders gum up our HE washer hoses and don't dissolve well in normal warm washes so we only use liquids. We use the same detergent for all household laundry as for diapers.
Back when I cared about the approved detergent list, I used to use Arm and Hammer Essentials Free, the unscented versions. It comes in a green bottle, not yellow. I found it at my local grocery store and at Big Lots. I don't think I ever looked at Walmart, because one bottle lasted forever.
That worked fine for us for 10 months or so, until she was almost a year. Her diapers started smelling like ammonia as soon as they were peed in, and she was getting diaper rash far too often. So I switched to Tide, the regular liquid version that is sold absolutely everywhere. It's awesome. I usually do 2 extra rinses, but I've had no problems since I switched.
Gosh, we bounce around haha. Right now i am using planet powder detergent for our diapers and so far its the one i like the most. We have used MANY others though in the past everything from tide, arm and hammer, all free and clear and purex. etc etc

I rotate and buy everything at Walmart. I usually get whatever free and clear they have on sale. I have a he washer too. Right now I think I'm using All. Before that it was Tide. I've also used Gain.

Thanks, ladies! After reading this & the other "cd safe" thread, I feel much better about tryings tide or something not on the list.
Never used cloth diapers before & really wanted to try it for a lot of reasons and after spending a lot of time researching online it has been overwhelming. I haven't known anyone in rl who cd. I'm sure as I get experience I will look back & wonder what the big deal was.
