I mean, at the hospital? What did you use and did it work? With Sam, who is now 3.5yrs old, we started at 2wks old after his cord fell off. He was big and chunky back then so even BGOS fit him (big on rise, but they worked on my big 8.5-9lb baby). I'm pregnant with #2 due in late Sept/early Oct by csection (due to previa) and we really dont have the money to do sposies. I am contemplating cloth, even after a csection, yes lol

I have nothing smaller than Small or OS sizing and if my baby is born before 37wks, I think it'll be under 8lbs for sure. Sam was 8lbs2oz at 41.5wks.

Well... I decided to use one pack of NB sposies until the meconium passed. I didn't even use the full thing and I had my youngest in cloth from day 3! But - I didn't want to stain the diapers up because they were loaned to me by a friend. I eventually bought them after she diapered her newborn a few months later. But this time I'll cloth from birth since I'll have a homebirth!

I haven't, but I plan to this time, I'm taking prefolds and covers and snappi's with me. But I also have a bunch of newborn diapers to take too just in case I don't want to do the prefolds (some of the dipes are name brand bought, and most are home made by me).

I used prefolds and homemade NB fitteds with covers. Everything was big on her, but I loved it! I'll do it again when I have another

We used cloth from the very first diaper. Meconium is actually completely easy to deal with and washed right out. Didn't even stain! It is better than breastfed poo! Our hospital had no problem with it at all. He wasn't in the nursery or anything though, so I don't know if that made a difference. I was the only one to change him. The nurses thought it was pretty cool overall and asked a bunch of questions.

I used happy hieney minis and they were perfect. Kieran was 8lbs, 4oz at 37 weeks....I grow them big. But he was skinny because he was also long. I also used prefolds (newborn) with Bummis newborn covers. Those fit really, really well in those first few weeks. I think he outgrew them by a month old (he was a fast grower). But I will be using them again. So I think those two are my top recommendations. The minis will last til around 15lbs, so they make it a good gap diaper before the OS fits. There were some on the FSOT a while back, so if you don't mind used, I would check them out. They are pockets.

I did not find starting the first day to b daunting at all. I actually loved it. And the cord was never a single problem. It even had the clamp still attached (miscommunication about who would remove it and our doc didn't have the right tool). It fell off on day 7. But the dipes went right under it.

I didn't CD from day 1 with DS, but even with my c/s i could have easily CDed starting at about diaper change 2-3. Starting with those changes I did all of his diaper changes myself. I plan to CD from the start with this new baby. Chances are I'll still have to be washing diapers for DS at that point, so why not do the newborn too?

We room-in with baby also, so I do all diaper changes... but my only concern is the fact I'll be in the hospital up to 4days after a c-section and would it stain if not washed that long?

We were only in the hospital for 30 hours or so after K was born. And we washed them when we got home. So it wasn't very long.

But would DH be willing to rinse the in the sink to lessen the chance of staining?

I really, truly don't think it will stain. Breastfed poop stains badly, but I could not even tell the diapers we used that had meconium. I imagine even if it did stain (which I have not heard of as of yet), they could be sunned just like breastfed poo. It is just amniotic fluid and organic waste. So I imagine it would be much the same with the sunning.

But if it is going to stress you out too much, thinking about staining....you could just use the diapers they give you in the hospital and switch over after that. I don't think it is worth over thinking it or worrying about the diapers. Its entirely a personal decision.

Oh my god, best news ever! I am not having a c-section! Placenta is not previa anymore! I can have my regular natural birth. And we are planning on getting out of the hospital after 24hrs instead of 48hrs if we can. So I will definitely be CDing from poop #2-3. Yay!

Oh and they dont give us diapers. We bring our own.

I did with Ezekiel, and it was great! The nurses and everyone all loved his diapers. I went a super cheap route and had no issues at all. Infant prefolds and 4 Thirsties Duo size 1 covers(I had another size small cover, but after one time wearing it, it was MIA.) Oh and I have two wool covers but I didnt start using those until he was a month+. Also, my little guy was 6 lbs (3 or 4 oz ??). Long skinny little dude. So yes they were a little bulky(for two months if I remember right), but we had NO leaks or gaps or any issues at all. The poo was never an issue either, washed right out and left no stains!

Mine all stayed in the nicu so we couldn't use cloth, but we did as soon as they came home. Nattie was just over 5lbs and we used preemie prefolds and homemade covers. I would just sun out any stains.
