Hi all my name is Amber momma to 3 boys, T 8, Z almost 6 and S 3mos born at 35wks., engaged to my best friend Justin, we have been toget for 6 1/2 yrs and engaged for 3yrs. I am finally getting to cd and have some questions if you ladies don't mnd. I bought PF and covers and a couple fitted to try out. I am fine with pf and covers for now but DF refuses to try them after i showed him how to use them, so I ordered 2 sunbaby pockets for him to try out (should be here today or tomorrow!) So here are my questions...

1. Whats a good laundry soap to use? I have read tide works well, but I am terribly allergic to it.

2. What are some good inexpensive OS pocket diapers? Do I have to prep pockets like i do pf?

3. Good night time diaper?

4. Any good home made wipe solutions? We have 3 more packs of sposie wipes and then I want to make my own.

5. How many diapers will I need a day, I can wash daily at first while i build my stash if need be?

S is 3mos and about 9 1/2 lbs, he is bf and ff, if any of that makes a difference.

TIA for reading and sorry for any typos I am nursing and using my phone lol.

Hi there! Welcome to the addicition! I'll try to answer your questions individually.

1. Whats a good laundry soap to use? I have read tide works well, but I am terribly allergic to it.

I would start with whatever you use for your regular laundry and go from there. If it works for your clothes, there s good chance it will work for your diapers too.

2. What are some good inexpensive OS pocket diapers? Do I have to prep pockets like i do pf?

For budget pockets, Alva seems to be very popular. Kawaii is also good. I have several Kawaii and one Alva; they all work great for me. Alvas are cheapest purchased directly from their company website, but you'll have to wait for shipping from China. Pockets with MF inserts just need one wash and they're easy to use.

3. Good night time diaper?

This is a tough one. It so depends on your kid. My 18 month old can sleep in just about anything with a second insert. Some babies practically need Fort Knox around their butt. For us, the most bulletproof combo is a fitted diaper with a fleece cover. I can't help you much with brands there, since I make most of my own.

4. Any good home made wipe solutions? We have 3 more packs of sposie wipes and then I want to make my own.

I just use water. I used to fill a small squirt bottle with water, a squirt of baby soap and a splash of baby oil. It worked , but I just quit mixing the other stuff in one day and haven't looked back.

5. How many diapers will I need a day, I can wash daily at first while i build my stash if need be?

If you're willing to wash daily to get started, I'd probably start with 10-12 diapers and build from there. Every time you would have bought a pack of sposies, put that money in a jar. Once you've set aside a fair amount, buy some more cloth.

S is 3mos and about 9 1/2 lbs, he is bf and ff, if any of that makes a difference.

Since he is partly ff, you will need to rinse or spray out any poop from the diapers before washing. Ff poop isn't water soluble and needs to go into the toilet. Also, many OS diapers don't fit very well until 10ish pounds. Since he's so close, I wouldn't worry about getting smaller diapers, just be aware that there may be a couple of leaks if he's got skinny legs.
