I read online how to prep the diaper I have (yes, only one diaper, but I'm excited, what can I say?) and everyone said the best idea was to use the dryer on hot for the first time.
The microfiber insert that I have seems to collect everything. Hair, loose threads, fuzz... And it's hard to get off. MIL's ever so helpful suggestion was to not use pocket diapers and to just use regular prefolds. (She's really against pocket diapers for some unknown reason.)

Would a different type of insert work better? Or at least be less collective?

Maybe compromise with your MIL and use a prefold as an insert!

I don't use pocket diapers myself, but microfiber has an icky hand feel to me and just doesn't get as clean as cotton. I know the microfiber are the cheapest kind of insert but I see a lot of complaints about them. Many people use them without issue too though.

I have never had an issue with MF. I know some people don't like it, but it works well for us. When it's washed in a regular load of diapers, I don't ever end up with random stuff stuck to it. Maybe the issue is just the other stuff in the dryer.

Most of my inserts are microfiber and I haven't had a problem with them. They do pick up a lot of static in the dryer. Every time I get mine out my cloth wipes are stuck all over them, lol. I haven't had an issue with hair and lint getting stuck to them though. Maybe cleaning your dryer vents with one of those long brushes would help? Plus, if they're stuffed in a pocket few hairs and loose threads being on there shouldn't hurt anything.

The first few times I washed the ones I picked up at the consignment sell I had the same problem. I washed them again last night but had them in a load by themselves insted of with the diapers and made sure I really cleaned out the dryer fliter and they came out perfect.

I haven't had this problem yet with my microfiber inserts, but maybe it's the brand? Mine are the ones that come with the BumGenius 4.0's and I really like them so far. They dry up great. I don't dry them with anything else though except prefolds and other liners. Are you drying yours with regular laundry?

I did this diaper and insert with a load of dishtowels, because I only had one and didn't want to run a whole load for one diaper.
Next time I wash diapers I should have enough to do a load of just diapers so I won't have to worry about that anymore

Yeah some of my microfiber inserts pick up more then others. I often find my hair stuck to them but I just pull it off and then stuff it in the diaper. I don't really see it as an issue.

Microfiber inserts work just fine when you're washing with only other diapers. Linty stuff will be gone and you'll love them Prefolds are also great though!

I replaced all my MF with hemp from joeybunz (http://www.diaperjunction.com/joey-b...p-inserts.html)

I sold all my MF which allowed me to buy the replacements. Almost 2 years and none of them smell, although my BG AIO with the sewn in MF do get stinky.
