I was given some newborn g diapers. I dont have the inserts, and Id really rather not get any. Im wondering what would be best to use in place? I have some flats, prefolds-though not nb size, and random inserts. Im also planning to make my own inserts and doublers, I could make some to fit gdiapers specifically. What would you recommend?

You could put anything in there so long as microfiber isn't touching baby's skin. I don't have g-diapers personally, though I've been wanting to try them (I have a neighbor who has some that is going to let me try one out).
I think it would be up to you to find the type of absorbancy that works well for your baby. I know with my son I put a newborn sized prefold in his pockets and fold it towards the front for more absorbancy where he pees for overnight. He pees a lot now for only being 5 weeks old, so I'm imagining that I'm going to have to start putting a bamboo insert in between the folds of the prefold in the pocket for overnight (and set an alarm to wake me to change his diaper mid-way through because I don't now since we sleep through the night).
