This is my third baby, but the first in about a dozen years lol. My first two were tiny 6 pound babies. So I was planning to start in real small newborn sizes, with newborn gmd prefolds and covers like the bummi's super bright newborns, and the rumparooz newborns.
My last ultrasound baby was already measuring in the 75% percentile for weight and height. Definitely going to be more like an 8 pound baby.
Should I change any of my plans? Should I skip newborn and head to the size above? Or the universal sized covers?

I never knew until that moment how badly it could hurt to lose something you never really had. - Missed Miscarriage at 10 weeks - 3/26
I wouldn't, either. My dd was 8 lbs 2 oz and 19 inches at birth, and we were in newborn GMD prefolds and xs Thirsties covers until about 4-5 weeks. Ultrasounds aren't very accurate when it comes to size, anyway. They can be off by entire pounds (which makes a big difference with little babies). It sounds like you're in good shape!
