Hi there,

I'll be a cloth diapering mommy beginning in November.

What I would like are the softest, plushest pre-formed diapers out there (I'm not interested in folding! I can't even wrap a burrito... and my dirty little secret is, I've NEVER even changed a baby..! Please don't tell my MIL, whatever you do!!)

I've looked at Vermont daipers and though grotesquely exspensive, they're really nice and seem to be what I'm looking for.

Can you ladies offer suggestions on the best way to use these (types) of diapers? And offer up suggestions/thoughts as to whether they ARE indeed as great as I think they are? Etc, etc, etc?

Thanks so much in advance!!

I've never heard of Vermont diapers. Do you have a link?

this is a good place to read reviews on diapers http://www.diaperpin.com/diapers/diaperpages.asp

oh and when my DD was a newborn, and she had poop explosions, I threw away the outfit because I didn't want to deal with it! Now I"m cloth diapering! (she was almost a year before we switched to cloth)

edit--www.snap-ez.com has some nice fleece diapers, and www.apronstringsbabythings.com also has them.

welcome! Glad you're going to use cloth! It's awesome! just be careful, they'r addictive

I'm Kelli, my DD Courtney is just over a year and we've been CDing her since about 2 weeks old.

for your questions:

I've never heard of those (Vermont diapers). Do you have a website?

I've heard organic Velour (OV) diapers are really soft

pretty much anything with velour, sherpa, or fleece will be nice and soft and comfy. oh, and now a lot of people make diapers with minky, which is wonderfully soft! I want to get some to try out

with fitted diapers (which is what I'm assuming you are talking about ) you will need covers. The covers can be re-used a few times before you need to wash them. they come in LOTs of different fabrics and styles.

If you dont' want to deal with covers, try some fleece all-in-ones or similar, like maybe "berry plush" ones. I've heard those are really nice.

I've never heard of Vermont diapers either. A lot of people like Kissaluvs size 0 for newborns, but they may or may not work for your baby. The best thing to do is buy an assortment of diapers and try them out. You'll find some are great, some are okay, and some don't work at all.

Here's the link to Vermont Diaper Company...
VDC

I'm seeing them more frequently in the "epicurean" baby stores over here on the west coast. They're LOVELY - but so darn expensive!!!

I looked at the site and it looks like they are just fitted diapers made from terry cloth and fleece. You can probably get the same type of diaper elsewhere for possibly cheaper. There are also a lot of different WAHM's (work at home mom) that make diapers like these.

Yeah... I don't see anything way special about them. You could spend about the same and get Growing Greens one-size diapers for example (NICE diapers and they have fit Fritz great since he was born due to the doubler being able to be used as a contour diaper at first) for example. I still say getting a selection and trying out a bunch is the best way to go. Different babies fit different diapers better than others.
