This child has the most sensitive skin! The only thing that is keeping me from going completely crazy is the fact that she also gets diaper rash in sposies. But she seems to get it more often in cloth

I'm really bummed out. I think it is from me trying to use cloth wipes again. I was only using tap water. Or maybe it was the rice paper liner? Or maybe the detergent? Or maybe all 3? Or maybe I need to use vinegar in the rinse? That is what Dr. Sears web site says to do.

What's a mom to do? My DH is making a pitch for sposies because of this rash thing. He says at least until it is cleared up.

Are you using baking soda? If so, vinegar rinse ight help, to balance the pH.
I hope her bottom clears up soon!

what detergent are you using? perhaps a second rinse would help? could it be something unrelated to the diapers like teething, a new food maybe?

are you nursing? breastmilk is full of healing chemicals if you can pump a bit and dab it on since you cant use rash cream with cloth.

hope her bum gets better soon!

I really think it was the cloth wipes. I don't know why, I was only using them with water! But since I stopped using them, put aquaphor on her bum all day yesterday she is back to normal with a spot of ecezma (which I treat with hydrocortizone for a few days).

Any possiblity it could be thrush?

(Its a common symptom - recurring diaper rash).

Another thing to look at is the detergent - some have enzymes that will make kids break out. Try using one thats free of enzymes. B/c really - cloth wipes are unlikely to make her break out - regular wipes ARE likely to, especially if baby has sensitive skin.

But the fact youre saying eczema makes me think a) food allergies (have you started solids yet?), and/or b)thrush.

wow these ladies had great ideas and suggestions.

i only use water on my cloth wipes as well...i would think that would be the best maybe not. what makes you think it's the water?

and how often are you changing her, i know for a while it was that we weren't changing often enough and once we did like every 2 hours, the rashes stopped. sposies wick away the moisture, cloth doesn't. so the wetness reaches them faster. this is a good thing cause it helps to quicken the PT thing, but means a bit more frequent changes.
