I think I vented about this before, or in my PR, that my oldest sister said she wanted to open a maternity store when she moved out of GA this summer. I asked her if we could partner up and she do the maternity, and I'd do the CD's and slings. She said sure, but only in Michigan. Grr. I won't be moving to Michgan anytime soon!

Anyway - I was telling my other sister today, who lives in the U.P. of Michigan about the sleeping bag comp. we, hubby and I, have a partnership in might be sold! Someone has shown an interest in buying it, and we're hoping to get all the money we put into it back, plus some. I told her how I would really like to open a small CD store in my town but I was scared to do it by myself. She told me that if we did sell the sleeping bag business and I wanted to go for it, she would move down here and help me do it!!

I am so excited! She moved to the U.P. to go to Northern Michigan University and has a degree in Marine Biology, but has given up in getting a job with it. She said she went for it because it interested her, but she doesn't want to lie anywhere near the ocean. She works at ShopKo, like a Target, and volunteers/works for a nature center.

So, she told me to brainstorm and share with her what my perfect store would be. She has no experience in it, no kids, no business knowledge, but would help me get it started and work the store with me. I want to do it before Bryce is out of diapers so I can have him running around in only a diaper and a cute matching shirt! I'm also picturing a toddler sized manequin (sp) wearing a diaper and matching shirt, and a baby one on its' belly with an adoreable fluffy bum!

So, what kind of diapers should I have from the catergories most of us all know so well!

I also am picturing a half mamma manequin with a sling and a CD'd babe in there...maybe some BF'ing stuff as well.

I'm thinking a small show room with a nice window for people to look in. A good sized stock room and another room where I can have demo's and maybe rent it out to scrapbookers....

Please help me create!

Maybe a TV with a demo video playing of different types being put on? I am sure a few of us on here could do that for you. You might want to look at carrying baby legs and some natural soaps good for dipe washing, too. I hope this works out for you! Maybe print up pamphlets with cloth vs. sposies facts. Make sure you include websites so that people can check your info! They feel more empowered that way. Good luck!

Excellent staff and costumer service.. for one..

When I first started looking at all the different types of CD's and even still now at times I was very overwhlemed and din't know where to begin. How many different kind of diaper covers do you really need. I just couldn't believe all the different choices, to me it was alot different than just going to the store and saying okay I need a size 0-1 of huggies ya know.. and I think that intimidates alot of people who want to CD off the bat.

Defiantely displays of the diapers and maybe if you can section them off into categories or label what you recommend would be best for different diapering needs.

Good luck!

Do you know how to make a cloth diaper cake? That would be eye-catching in your window, and you could offer that as a service if you know how, or have someone make you one in return for displaying it with their business card...
Definitely offer a registry service
How exciting! I hope this is a successful venture!

First off, great idea, and I wish you luck!!!!!!!!!!! There is a cd store here, and one thing they do is offer cloth 101 class. I havnt been to it yet, but I have heard great things. You get to see diapers and how they work, and lots of other info. She charges a $10 fee, but you get a $20 gift certificate to spend in the store!!
