I'm a bit nervous about how they are going to react, but I certainly won't let anyone treat me poorly. It isn't ideal to have to start a new position while pregnant. It's scary enough to start a totally new career, but now I have to tell them I'm pregnant very soon after starting. Not looking forward to this.

I'd wait a few more weeks and then just tell your boss...no need to announce to the whole office just yet.

I understand, coming out at work was something I was stressing about myself. Take whatever time you need, they wont even be speculating for a while, after all, we are recovering from the holidays

Eeeek! That is nerve racking! TBH, I would tell your boss sooner rather than later, that way you guys can plan around it. A good boss (and company for that matter) would appreciate you telling them as soon as possible. Maybe once you get to know him/her better. And yeah, the office can wait.

Ok. Now that I've hit the weekend and I start Monday, I'm starting to freak out. I've been off of work for over a month and it's scary to switch career fields. I really hope this goes well.

Good luck!! I interviewed for a new job a few weeks ago and have a final interview on Tuesday. I told the recruiter yesterday that I was pregnant, and she said the firm may decide against the interview now. I work in a male dominated industry, so I'm not surprised. Oh well! Hope your new job goes great!

KH, Im sorry that happened to you. I decided not to tell them so that they couldn't discriminate against me. I figure that everyone has a mother and women will continue to have babies for the rest of time. It just stinks that though they *shouldn't* be upset when they find out, I know they probably will be.

I know, it's so ridiculous that we have to worry about their reactions at all. I have worked at my current firm for over 10 years, and when I told them I was pregnant with DD in 2012, their response was 'ugh so you have to take 2 or 3 weeks off?" Lol. I am the only female in our firm of 22 people. Needless to say when I took off 8 weeks they weren't thrilled. I'm expecting the same reaction this time. Hopefully your new firm is understanding and doesn't give you any crap!

VallyD - go for it, and hopefully no one discriminates. It's actually illegal to, but as you've heard from my situation with the new firm I was interviewing with, people don't care I guess! Not all places are like that though. I have a good friend who just got hired at Boeing here in Chicago and when she told them she was pregnant after she accepted the job, the guy said no problem. Good luck! Hope you find a good one

Val, You should totally do it. The only way to ensure that you won't get the job you want is by not applying . There are lots of great employers that have understand that pregnancy is a necessary part of life. They would be lucky to have you!
