...do you ever find yourself using replacement behaviors to get through a stressful time?
I was just wondering. I have been in recovery for 5 years and really don't foresee reoccurring issues with the eating disorder in the future. I spent the last 10 years in therapy and feel that I have worked through the main reasons it existed. I have different coping skills now and have learned to shut down those thoughts really quick.
But every so often, when I am having a really stressful time (like now, we just had two back-to-back miscarriages), I find I turn to shopping or "picking" (that one is an OCD behavior, which I am medicated for). And I just get "sucked in." I always get out eventually...but not before we end up $5000 in debt (we are on a tight budget and veering off causes some pretty rotten consequences) or my arms/face/legs look like minefields.
Just wondering if anyone here experiences the same kind of replacement behaviors (at times) that I do...
when we were trying for baby #2 and i was really into recovery i also used shopping as a coping process during our 3 losses ... i started doing it at the dollar store or thrift shops so we wouldn't end up in the poor house - but i could release a bit like that. i also get into face picking ... which really upset DH so i tried to get out with DS more to parks and such and also cleaning lol
I'm sorry for your back to back losses i know how hard that is. sending baby dust with super sticky cement for you!!!!!!
